If I'm not mistaken, Illarramendi broke Real's record transfer fee for a Spanish player.
You're not mistaken - I read that on Wikipedia too (only because I actually knew F**k all about the lad if I'm being truthful).

Haha no worries. I remember when he moved to Real thinking it was a top signing for them. He moved in the same window as Isco, Bale and Carvajal.

Sadly , this one has died down. I really liked this kid when I saw him play for the Spain U21 team that won the euro's a few summer's ago. Him, Thiago, Jese, and Morata ran the show in that tourney. Obviously, he hasn't had the playing time at Madrid so it's hard to say if he has progressed, but I'd love to see us gamble on him.

I doubt if Rafa would wanna sell Illara as he likes to operate with a specialist DM alongside Kroos/Modric. Not sure if he rates Lucas Silva either.

      Liverpool close in on Illarramendi
Liverpool are nearing a deal for Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi. With Madrid hopeful of signing Paul Pogba and possibly Geoffrey Kondogbia, Illarramendi has decided to leave and will tie up a €21 million move to Anfield.

he's a good player, more in the alonso mode, not the most dynamic but a good passer and excellent technically

I haven't seen him since the U21 Euro's a couple of years ago, but he looked pure class in that tournament. He controlled the midfield for Spain with his passing, positioning, and reading of the game. What he did allowed players like Thiago, Jese, and Morata to express themselves more in the attacking third.

           Coutinho
       Milner      Can
         Illarramendi

That would be a midfield we could have some confidence in.

I like the look of that, with Hendo possibly slotting in as a starter depending on how everyone looks like in preseason and injuries and stuff.

would be a great player but means we will 100% have to shift 2 midfielders as we would be top heavy in that area

Never heard of him in all honesty, but if others are encouraged by him, hopefully it's a good sign. Perhaps Rafa can help us out here!
