IF ... IF ... one more for good measure ... IF we continue to struggle in the middle with low energy and quality levels, and we sign nobody in Jan, would move Milner back into the middle.
He's done well at FB no doubt, but with Joe back, and Moreno there for Cup match cover, we have options in that position ... while (depending on how things go) we might not have the same luxuries across the middle.

Turned out a good signing did Milly.

Another Duracell performance today from Jimmy and a cool head for the penalty.
Not easy at the Stretford end with De Gea in goal..
      Took it really well.

Millie's done well as a surrogate LB, but I wonder if we had a dedicated LB, would he really benefit us more in his more natural position in midfield?

Looking back over a few games, and it's clear that Milner isn't being played as a left back in the traditional sense.

It's also clear that Klopp plays him there not just for his ability to get up and down, but because coming onto his right foot when deep means an easier pass into the half space for both Firmino and Coutinho, because he has created the angle to play it in.
Further up, he is there to take advantage of Coutinho and Firmino doubling up in that defensive half space, making the FB come inside, and pulling the CB out of position to create more room in the box, for Milner to target when he overlaps.

It's still a work in progress, obviously, and without Coutinho it doesn't work nearly as well, but this tactic wouldn't work half as well with a left footed player on that side, when passing from a deep position.
Obviously, the overlap doesn't work as well as it would with a left footer, but it's swings and roundabouts really, and is a plan which has worked pretty well right up until the time Coutinho got injured.

I think the experiment might have run its course now for James as a left back.

As a right back he could be in business, but if I were Klopp I wouldn't persist without a left back for much longer.

Yup I think it's pretty clear to see Milner now is a liability at LB, imagine if that was Moreno tonight!

It doesn't help when he's being made to play every game nearly because of Moreno being so sh*t. At his age of course he's going to get knackered running 100 yards up and down all game long.

Just turned 31 don't think he is to old for a full back, it's just not his best position esp on the left hand side.
Actually the 9th richest club in the world should not have to resort this sort of bollocks!

Would rather see Milner as an option to replace Can in midfield.....but we can't do that if we don't have a proper LB.

I don't know off is tiredness, which is possible because no one works harder than James, but his reaction time seems to be a little slower than it was.

I think the assist was more down to Moses rather than Jimmy picking out Gini.

I bet DanMan was happy with that one  :D

To be fair, who knows where that ball would have gone had it not deflected.

But he's in there to follow up not bad for a 31 year old right midfielder playing left full

Run down the left then take a couple of touches to switch the ball to your right foot by which time the opposition have reset the defence and then go onto cross the ball and hit the first defenders noggin!

Rinse and repeat for 90mins are we the most brainless team in the league?

Put him in the middle alongside Hendo.

Get Gomez to play LB not F***ing Moreno.
