1 more year means 1 more year less game time for a Morton to aid development.

I’ll be honest, I don’t think Morton is anywhere near ready for consistently being in and around our first team yet

I think he needs a loan and fingers crossed it develops him like an Elliot for a year away

Where he is now? Not at the level for me

Loan to where though?  A club that plays an alien style to what we play? I honestly think young lads like Morton would develop far better getting the the game time Milner gets than being loaned out. Playing with Fab, Thiago, Hendo Keita etc for 10 mins or 45 minsthan going and joining a club where they might play 90 mins but in a 4 4 2 for example.

Its easier said I know to find a club where thatll be the case. But I just dont see the plus to another year, its either holding a young lad back or potentially saying we arent signing a midfielder in the summer

Watching match and would take time. However, I’ll comment on the ones you state.

      Thiago is ok.
      Fabinho very good.
      Keita average
      Henderson past his best now.
      Elliott improving
      Jones improving
Milner well past his best and will only ever be a bench player now.
Chamberlain bang average even before his injury, never rated him.

Doesn’t exactly stand out for me Si. You need minimum two midfielders come summer window.

Stopped reading this post when Thiago was just ‘ok’.

      :lmao:

A team that likes to get on the ball in the championship

A Fulham, forest, even a derby if they go down, they like to play the ball and play youngsters

To be honest I don’t think he’s good enough as of yet to play milner’s minutes
We’re too good for him to do that currently

Hes not good enough yet, but can be and I think he would get there quicker by playing games with us.

Probably going off subject but loans rarely work out. Wilson for example had some great seasons on loan but never made it. Off the top of my head ( which isnt great) Danny Murphy to crewe is the only loan deal that came back went in the team and improved it.

Anyway Millie might decide to go anyway, lets see

Thought he might go to a Leeds or Villa and get some better play time before he retires and then maybe come back in a coaching kind of role because it's obvious everyone at the club loves him, and just having him around the youngsters must be amazing, imagine being around a freak of fitness like Milner every day.

800th game... wow. That's just insane. And that's not even counting his international appearances.

Amazing 800 games, what a record that is and he still hasn't finished, fantastic record, and congrats on his year extension.

      Fantastic professional.

So why was he crying on the bench? Expects it to be his last start and meaningful appearance for us? From the ball smashing him in the head? Or something else?

I tricking love James Milner!! Scan the match thread when the team was announced and so many were a bit worried he was in the team and then he goes and puts in a motm performance like today. His tackle made the goal, that header saved a goal. Says it all. Will be gutted when he hangs up his boots or goes back to Leeds.
