"We didn't refresh the roster and are left with too many older players"

"Disgraceful they're not bringing 37yo Milner back"

      Gotta have it both ways

Did someone on here actually say that? Or just another strawman argument?

What does the 3rd choice GK have to do with it 🤷‍♂️

They were willing to give a new contract to Adrian but not to Milner is what I assume walt is saying.

Adrian is prob on a 10th if that of Milners wage and is there for experience

It’s the same with City bringing in Carson

So what you reckon Millie would have been on?

Just can't see him being on massive wages, surely?

How much is it actually gonna free up?

      Yea but totally different scenarios.

One is a 3rd choice keeper who knows he's unlikely to play.

The other is a midfielder who clearly sees himself still playing lots of games.

We are never going to offer Milner that and those wages are much better put in use for another player.

It really isn't rocket science and sounds like people are trying anyway to find fault when it isn't there.

It didn’t sound like Milner or Klopp wanted to part ways. If Klopp wanted to keep him, we should have made an effort. Not saying we should hamstring the budget but I doubt that would have been the case.

      Disagree.

Sometimes the manager has to be overruled, it's why clubs have DoF and Sporting Directors.

Jürgen may well wanted to keep him from a personal and playing perspective but there are people at the club who'll look at the cost involved in that and decide it isn't sensible.

£140K a week on a bit part player is insane.

      That’s the main point

If we had signed him to a new one year contract I have no doubt people would be up in arms about giving a 37 year old a new contract

We can't have it always, a predominant saying is if it or he is good enough for Klopp and Klopp wanted him to stay then surely we should have done whatever was possible to enable this.

I completely get why Jürgen wanted him to stay. He always goes on about the importance of training and from the all the interviews we've had it was clear that Milner was the one that set the standards in training and got everyone going. For Jürgen that must have been invaluable.

I get why the club overruled him as it's a massive wage for his limited contribution on the pitch but it's hard to put a number on the off the field stuff.

Hopefully the other senior pros fill that massive gap he is leaving behind.

Milner said klopp wanted him to stay, but he wasnt 100% sure and he also said the club had other ideas.

He has since also stated he kind of had a feeling he would leave.

And as others have said he probably thinks he can play on for another couple of season in the prem.

I have no doubts he will play a lot of games for amid table team. Hopefully its a nice club, Brighton has been mentioned.

The squad needed a refresh, so All good and all that stuff.

If the only reason to keep him was for his off field attributes then Henderson needs to become that player and we sign at least one more after MacAllister.

We need to move in and progress this midfield not hand onto past glories.

Pretty sure that is the plan.

Who takes Vice Captain now? Ali or Robbo ?

Personally Id go for Robbo, I just don't like goalies as captains.

Yea I'm sure it's the plan as well mate. Was just trying to lay it out for those in here who seem puzzled why we've let a 37 year old on huge money leave to play regular football.

I thought Virgil was already the one wearing the armband if Hendo or Milner weren't on the pitch?

      Correct:
*JK has been at the club long enough to know, and be comfortable with, how FSG operate. Milly preferring to stay, Klopp preferring him to stay is only half of the story. Before committing to a new (One year) deal FSG would have to calculate the minutes played by the wages paid. If he'd stayed he'd most likely play fewer games...OK probably for less money...but it's still money, and any business has to decide what return it gets on its investment. They obviously decided it was too big a cost if he was to sit out most games idle in the dugout. I'm sure JK will have said fair enough it's your money. Football clubs are always in transition, it's just a big conveyer belt of players.
*He wouldn't have stayed this long if he wasn't comfortable.

Yea your right, he was behind Milner actually, so suppose Virg is now Vice Captain then.
