Marta really deserves a World Cup trophy to her name. It would be a shame if she retired without at least one WC and a Olympic gold medal.

More than once she got really close but the rest of the team didn't do much to help. I've always been appalled by the lack of mental resilience of the Women's national team (the Men's are not much better these days :D), they constantly crack under pressure and have made mistakes which have cost us gold.

Not sure how the current squad is in that respect as I've only seen bits of the games. Looking forward to the knockout phase though.

Marta is class. Love watching her play.

As for Brazil, they've look very fluid, but like many Brazilian teams, susceptible on the counter. The midfield gets involved tons in the attack, which is great when they have possession, but it also opens up quite a few gaps that can be exploited. Australia has some decent pace and likes to press, but I reckon Brazil just have too much quality. Japan, if both teams advance, will be the real test. Such a solid unit.

Full time! Historic result for Australia!

Feel gutted for Marta though. Another tournament without a World Cup.

Forgot to watch the match, what a result for Australia though!

      Quarter-final draw:

      China vs USA/Colombia

      Germany vs France

      Australia vs Japan/Netherlands

      Norway/England vs Canada

There's some great games yet to be played in this tournament. Today/tonight's games are: Norway vs England (BBC3) at 10pm UK time. USA vs Colombia (BBC2) at 1am UK time.

Yet again another goalkeeping mistake costing her the chance of a trophy. I knew it was going to happen but it pissed me off anyway.

While Marta didn't have a great tournament herself, it still sucks to see her go out. She had her leg taped up, so I wonder if she had some kind of injury she was playing through.

Crazy to think that was the first and only goal Brazil conceded all tournament.

Don't get this anyone but England sh*te.

These players have nothing to do with the bulldog mentality of the male England teams supporters.

      Come on England.

Sampson's gone back to using defensive and boring tactics again for this game by the looks of it. I'm baffled! They played their best stuff playing an attacking style.

Finally starting to create a few chances through attacking. There's no reason why we can't beat these playing our usual style.

What on earth was that defending?! All our players were on the goal line, that's shocking!

That was a great corner taken just there by Norway. Didn't see ONE corner like that all last season from Liverpool.

England vs Canada it is, should be a great game.

We were so much better once we went attacking in the second half. We played with a purpose unlike in the first half. Lucy Bronze, my favourite female English player with the winner too. That goal should be on the shortlist for goal of the tournament.
