Can, Henderson and Milner looks most likely midfield grouping.  Surprised to see one or two omitting Can from the side.  He's one of our best players.

Still think we need an out and out striker but Firmino, Origi and Ings are probably all going to feature heavily early on.  Not sure how long Firmino and Coutinho will get off after the Copa America but they may not be ready to go on August 8th.

      Mignolet

      Clyne       Skrtel       Sakho       ???

      Henderson   Can   Milner

      Coutinho

      Sturridge     Firmino

Firmino slightly off Sturridge. That looks amazing up front if they all stay fit.

According to confirmed transfers and with Sturridge being out injured to start the season:

      Mignolet
      Manquillo?     Skrtel      Sakho     Moreno
      Can?
      Hendo     Milner
      Lallana             Firmino           Coutinho

Lallana/Firmino/Coutinho constantly rotating and changing positions as none are strikers but all three are AMs.

If we can get Clyne, that'd be boss. As for Can, not sure how he'll look playing at DM. Always seems to look a bit better when partnered next to a DM.

Think you just changed my mind about mine actually, I'll go with your line up, looks pretty good. When Studge gets back, it'll be a headache but a good one, so we can see who is on form or not. We still have Ibe, Markovic, Lovren, Flanno, Lucas as back ups, so looks pretty good.

We shouldn't automatically assume that Milner and Firmino will gel and walk into the side though, we have to see how it goes. That's BR's decision depending on how they do in training, but if they fit, and I suspect they will, I hope he sticks with a regular side, with one or two changes per game according to tactics.

I think it's definitely time to move Can as a Mascha type proper DM. He'll link up well with Milner and Hendo.

      Assuming the following

We're signing Clyne and bacca and nobody else how about this

                                          MIgnolet

      Clyne.            Skrtel.                    Sakho.       Milner

                           Can.                      Hendo

                         Coutinho.               Firminio

                       Sturridge.                 Bacca

Clyne and Milner giving width. Cou and Firminio can also give width as well as playing through the middle. It looks narrow in writing but it's adaptable in game

Milner has been promised a midfield slot btw. 100% I read that when he signed. Obv. certain games he can play in different positions, but generally he will be playing midfield.

I don't disagree about him probably starting most games but wouldn't believe everything you read.

      Exactly.

In sure he may well have been 'promised' to play in midfield but once a seasons under way the manager will change that if necessary.

That looks like a 4-2-2-2 and I don't think we should be trying such a formation.

Haha it's funny how some of these formations look on my phone.

I hope they are meant to look different on a pc.

We look a bit exposed down the left on this one...

And the most worrying thing for me on this one is Mignolets starting position and the gaping hole down the middle is just asking for trouble.

And this one is looking a bit busy down the left with Migs out of position again haha.

Then you've got Brezipool just spoiling the fun with a well formatted structured formation... Shame on you.

It seems everyone's assuming Studge will return to the same level he was 12 months ago after missing (by the time he's back) the best part of 16 months.  I doubt we'll see him at that level much before Jan/Feb if he ever returns to it.

He's had a LOT of niggly muscle injuries that seemingly take forever to heal and has also had surgery on his hip joint, he may NEVER return to his best.

I desperately hope that's not the case as he's about to hit his peak years and I'd hate for us to miss out on them  :(

I agree, we should consider Sturridge a bonus and not rely on him, that is why its crucial we get another top top striker in.

Get Bacca and keep Balo seeing as we won't sell him, just loan him out  ;D

So I've picked a couple of teams here. Ive assumed Clyne will sign, sterling will leave and that everyone's fit (I know this won't be the case at the start of the season).

The first team is a possible selection for league games and the second is a second team for the cups including the early stages of Europe:

                     Mignolet

           Ilori.     Skrtel      Sakho

      Clyne  Milner/Hendo  Can   Moreno

              Coutinho      Firmino

                     Sturridge

      ---------------------------------

                        Bogdan

        Wisdom/Gomez   Toure    Lovren

      Ibe Milner/Hendo Allen/Lucas Flanno

             Lallana       Markovic

                     Ings/Origi

Strangely I'd actually like to see the narrow diamond again this year but I feel this formation actually gives all players the opportunity in their natural positions. And as far as I'm concerned you have to players in their best positions to get the best results.

I was mentioning this in Ilori's thread. I think your first team is excellent, it has much more balance than when we've tried it in last year but it is reliant on Sturridge staying fit at the moment. Both Coutinho and Firmino offer plenty defensively so we wouldn't be as exposed centrally as we have been in the past and of course having Sakho instead of Lovren will add a better balance on the left hand side of defence. I'd probably just switch Milner and Can, think they're more comfortable on the opposite sides that you've placed them and Milner would give great cover to the glaring weakness in Moreno.

I would be happy to see that team starting at any point.

                                  Coutinho

                         Sturridge           Sterling

Hey you said this is based on confirmed transfers. Sterling is not confirmed gone yet. If we have him we would be foolish not to use him.

      Ibe at RB.....Er, no.

      Mignolet

      Clyne       Skrtel       Sakho       ???

      Henderson   Can   Milner

Firmino slightly off Sturridge. That looks amazing up front if they all stay fit.

I'd for along these lines. Would have to be Moreno at LB unless we sign somebody else but then as soon as Flanno is back I would have him straight in the team at LB, much more solid defensively than Moreno.
