Not to say 20/20 doesn't have a place (though I say that begrudgingly accepting it's gonna be there), but the passion for the test game seems to be eroding as more pressure is put on schedules and dollars in the crash and bash. My worry when 20/20 first started was fully realised in this series.

I have to agree. Firstly congrats to Eng on their Ashes victory. They will be coming to South Africa later this year and i look forward to that series.
The problem i have is that the standard of test cricket seems to have dropped all over and even in the selection of players where our SA team would look to replace a solid and technically sound player like Kallis with a flair player instead. Each format has its place yet we find people talking bout a more exciting brand of test cricket almost as if the matches needs to be finished within 3 days. In my opinion the current England side as well the SA side doesnt seem the most spectacular especially in batting but their bowling units are very evenly matched and should make for another interesting series.
I just wish teams could adopt a set team for each format and stick to those disciplines instead of forcing a particular brand of cricket.

Sad state of modern cricket when this statement can be said about an Aussie side playing in the Ashes.

Hurt me typing it mate. Not been used to this for a long, long time.

Oh well here we go, this ashes series has been like sex, a lot of excitement, build up and anticipation but a couple of quick bangs and its all over. England unchanged, Mitchell marsh and siddle in for Shaun marsh and Hazelwood, England won the toss and will bowl.

Great respect shown by England to Michael Clarke then as he came on to replace David Warner who got out for 85.

Lyth strikes again with a sh*t innings. It's been the same in every innings throughout the series.

The series is a sports psychologists wet dream, excited, at times brilliant, at times awful

Can't say I have paid as much attention to this test with the series being over, and it looks like England haven't either.

Australia always had the most to prove from this - you see this all the time in sport.  Like when a team wins the league with a few games left.

Never thought England were ruthless enough to stick their foots on the Aussies necks although they like to do it to us!

      Oh, what could have been.

Wish we got battered in the last test and not come out and pumped them.

couldn't agree more, runs, catches and the odd wicket, i had major doubts but delighted to be proven wrong.

      My ashes ratings

Alistair Cook 7/10 - his captaincy certainly proved me wrong. Still england's rock at the top of the order

Adam Lyth  3/10  - seems a good sort but struggled badly. Good hundred against NZ seems years away. Will be dropped

Ian Bell 4/10 - an increasing enigma, the best player to watch but is too loose.

Joe Root 8/10 - wickets, catches and runs, still more to come as well. Funny lad as well

Gary Ballance - 3/10 - needs to work on his technique, is a number 5 or 6 all day long.

Jonny Bairstow - 6/10 - One good innings, better than when he played last time, still not convinced.

Ben Stokes - 6/10 - needs to add more consistency, great talent but needs to show it more often.

Jos Buttler - 3/10 - Wicket Keeping is average at best, batting in the longer form of the game needs to improve rapidly

Moeen Ali - 6/10 - Vital lower order runs and the odd valuable wicket, was never going to be the long term solution to england's spinning options

Stuart Broad - 8/10 - as usual when he is good is is brilliant, englands best bowler, his batting seems to be showing signs of life

James Anderson - 5/10 - Not at this best apart from one good innings, needs to be wrapped in cotton wool.

Mark Wood - 6/10 - Promising start, needs to stay fit, gives england something different

Steve Finn- 6/10 - Excellent to see him back and in form, would love to see him put on bit extra pace

Did not go to a Test Match this summer, today I am off to the ODI game at Old Trafford. Looking forward to seeing a limited over game with my mates, in particular when they switch on the lights later on this evening. Looks like we have the weather, hope to see England record a win.

Enjoyed the game on the whole, unfortunately went very chilly in the evening though, more like Autumn, than late Summer. Yes a different atmosphere under floodlights.
