Jürgen Klopp confirmed Joe Gomez suffered an ankle injury during Liverpool's 3-1 win at Burnley on Wednesday.

The No.12 was stretchered off midway through the first half at Turf Moor and the Reds will have to assess the seriousness of the issue in the coming days.

“It was his ankle,” the manager said at his post-match press conference.

“Joe is injured and probably not only a little bit. We have to see, we don’t know in the moment. We sent him home.”

Poor bloke thought it was that knee again.

The lad is a machine at 21 he plays like he is 30 . Fingers crossed its just a bit of rest needed he has become a really important player for us.

With his injury history I don’t think we should be playing him much at right back anyway the distance you cover in that position surely increases the chances of injury? That and he’s been just as good for me as VVD at CB

Think it might be a twisted ankle or something. Didn't seem that bad to me. As he wasn't in much pain later when they showed him. Hope it's a 2 week layoff though

Big loss if he’s out for a while, hopefully it’s not an Achilles injury because they take ages to heal. Hopefully Lovren is available to deputise.

Hearing its a fracture, but nothing confirmed from the club... If so thats a good 8 weeks (based on a stress fracture) and more like 6 months if a proper one. Not great...

Liverpool can confirm Joe Gomez sustained a fracture to the lower left leg during the 3-1 win at Burnley on Wednesday night.

The defender needed to be substituted after 23 minutes at Turf Moor following a challenge from which he was unable to continue.

Gomez’s injury was further assessed by the Reds’ medical team at Melwood on Thursday.

Initial indications suggest the 21-year-old is facing a spell of up to six weeks out of action, though it’s dependent on how his treatment and rehabilitation programmes progress.

I hate it for the lad and will miss him being on the pitch but I  somewhat relieved.  Having personally suffered tendon, ligament, and fractures, a fracture is the easiest to overcome both physically and mentally.

Big blow for us he has been playing outstandingly well.

Bollix. Serious blow for us - him and Virg are the best centre back pairing in the country. Matip or Lovren should still be ok as partners, but neither is as good as Joe.

At least he's not out for the season - hopefully 6 weeks is the max.

Hope Burnley get relegated now, agricultural fuckers. Had just been feeling good about getting through an Everton game without any serious injuries (they were fairly clean for a change, in fairness to Silva).

It's a sickener - but it's what great sides have to contend with and the kid has delt with much, much worse.

Worth remembering Citeh without De Bruyne for damned near half a season (as we are with Ox) and Mendy pretty much all last season.....
