I'm a bit relieved to be honest. I thought it was his ankle ligaments and it was game over for the season. Thank God it's not. 6 weeks is still not ideal but Lovren can step up for sure. He is well tamed with Virgil beside him so while he may not have the attributes of Joe and more mistake prone, he's more than capable as proven by his upsurge in form last season once Big Virgil came in.

Clyne suddenly becomes critical to us now that Gomez is out as he'll be the backup to Arnold. At CB we are covered well enough between Lovren and Matip, though it comes of the risk of injury since neither one is very durable, but if Clyne is not ready to go we'd have no backup to Arnold and that'd be an issue with such crowded schedule coming up.

Gutted for the lad but was fearing the worst, hopefully vvd, lovren and matip can hold the fort and clyne help out at eb

Wouldn't shock me if we don't start seeing Phillips in more training shots at Melwood, both Matip & Lovren seem to get all kinds of niggles.

This season the players we can’t afford to be losing are Alisson, Virgil and Gomez so it’s a massive blow to have lost one of them at a critical time with games against Napoli, Mancs, Arsenal and City.

How does Clyne suddenly become critical for us? Gomez has only filled in at RB for Trent on a few occasions and given the fact that Clyne very rarely even makes the match day squad, it will more than likely be Fabinho that fills in at RB if and when it’s needed.

Clyne isn’t an option, except for maybe the FA Cup.

I think TAA and Lovren become more critical to be honest, mate. Klopp clearly doesnt fancy Clyne and I wouldn't be surprised if it's Lovren CB and TAA RB up until the FA Cup and Camacho getting a go in that.

Because, unlike you, i don't see Klopp playing Fabinho at RB and with 6 games in 21 days TAA is going to need rest or we'll be running him into the ground. Klopp has been handling Fabinho with kid gloves easing him into midfield, and you think he'll suddenly put him at RB, a position he's never played for us? fine, but i expect Clyne getting those minutes and being able to give TAA a break is important in a season with such high hopes and expectations.

Did the injury happen from a tackle or when he slid into the fence?

      Seeing as Klopp came in and put Milly at LB, a position he hadn’t played for us before, I see no reason why not Fabinho who plays RB for Brazil these days and has done in Monaco too. Not forgetting that Klopp said this when Fab arrived;

”He has ability and mentality to play at the highest level in a number of positions. He can play '6', '8' and '2'. This is cool.”

So yes, I think Clyne is as irrelevant now as he was before the Gomez injury.

Did the injury happen from a tackle or when he slid into the fence?

Combination of the 2 I think.

Me too, I think. He’ll be back for the CL Knockouts (yeah, I said it...) and we can hopefully get by in the meantime.

      Still a shame.

Tackle mate - he didn’t actually reach the fence with much force and was wincing before. It was the conditions.

Fabinho can play right back as he is doing it for Brasil and i bet Milner could do a decent job at it as well :):)

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the challenge from Mee, it was a good hard tackle. Sturridge was diving, while i accept it goes on i do not like seeing our players resorting to that type of play. When you play Burnley you know what to expect.

      That's rapid recovery, that.

Would explain why we're not in the market for a defender. Providing he is back by the end of the month, happy days.

Said to be expected back training in two weeks, which is why Clyne is being sent out on loan.
