Much like we have seen with Matip and Lovren that these defenders need a run of games to work out the kinks and find their form and he looks more comfortable as each game rolls along.

I just feel as the boss is a deep thinker and has him as first choice cover for right back.  He sees potential coming in from the youths for this position,  Williams and Hoever and is biding time.

yhink he struggled to find form after his injury and Joel played so well alongside Virgil. Right back now

I wouldn’t say he was poor, just not at the standard Matip and Lovren were producing

So far they’ve all done the same. Matip came into the team due to injuries and he really upped his game, Lovren then came in due to Matip getting injured and he upped his game on the whole and now Gomez has come in and he’s upped his game.

All three of them just need a couple of games and they find that consistency again.

Vardy never had a sniff of goal last night,Lovren and Matip are good players but i doubt they would have kept him so quiet, no co- incidence we are not shipping many goals since Joe has been back fully fit.

      Van Dijk-Lovren - 17 goals conceded in 18 games = 0.94 goals per game
      Van Dijk-Matip - 16 goals conceded in 24 games = 0.67 goals per game
Van Dijk-Gomez - 5 goals conceded in 13 games = 0.38 goals conceded per game

Again I thought he was standout player for us tonight in a game where he was called upon a few times to bail out TAA on the right side and he coming on top in a lot of 1v1 battles either in the air or on the ground with pace. You can tell he is feeling good about his play of late with the confident runs with the ball past players in tight area's to start the attack.

Gomez's partnership with VVD has given us 6 clean sheets in the last 6 games.

we have been talking a lot of Rhian but I just think its worth reflecting on how well Joe is now doing but it has taken him almost 12 months since his injury to get fit again and establish himself back in the side. These young lads have to be so mature so early on in their careers don't they. Fancy him to be imperious again today

Has Gomez been our most important player this past 6 weeks? We haven't conceded a goal in nearly 600 minutes of League football having previously struggled to keep clean sheets. Our defence has picked up massively since Joe has returned to form and (bizarrely) since Henderson replaced Fab as our number 6 (not suggesting Fab is the reason)

Just think the pair of them together are something special , it’s always taken Joe time to get right after an injury , but once he’s got minutes under his belt his class shines , it’s no coincidence that we have seven on the bounce now , best thing is I see him getting better the more him and Virgil are together a special partnership we have right there ,

Seeing a lot of ‘only good because he plays with VVD’

F**k off - every time he has played for England he has EXCELLED.

Was excellent against Everton in the cup too.

He is the real deal and like I’ve been saying since we first got him - potential to be the best in the world - he has everything in his locker but his most valuable asset is his speed and control.

      I think he’s incredible

I would have Gomez over Laporte and De Ligt. 💯

Over De Ligt for sure in everyday of the week but he's par with Laporte. He can excel him in no time if he keeps consistenty which is vital for a CB.

      That stat is unreal
I think there’s something in the theory Virgil takes anyone he plays next to another level but him and joe complement each other superbly. A better defensive partnership in world football there isn’t. Joe is superb and the amazing thing is we have 10 years of him to come, he will take the baton from virg as the defensive leader in years to come

He just needed them few games in a row to get his consistency back after the leg fracture. Virgil has set a new standard for the quality of a CB, but the way Gomez is going already at a young age, there's every chance he could go beyond the level of Virgil in years to come.
