Fabinho still plays RB for Brazil.
does that even matter though? He's not a RB here on a club level. We need him in midfield. Yesterday demonstrates that. Lovren is Croatia's best defender but what is he here? Shows how different international and club football can be.

      Of course it matters.
Can he be an option there? Yes.
      Has he experience there? Yes.

Could just, you know, play him in midfield? There isnā€™t a single upside to letting Clyne go. We should be strengthening not weakening in numbers.

Of course play him in midfield.
      Play TAA at RB.
      All ideal scenarios.
      Play Gomez at CB.

Not a fan of weakening the squad mid season,
but not going to pretend I'm upset about a player leaving who I was wondering,
prior to the United game, whether he was a figment of my imagination.

ok so we put Fabinho at RB, then no Fabinho in the midfield? Not really seeing the up side of that. We're not Brazil. Brazil have Fernandinho, Paulinho, Coutinho...etc we have Milner and Henderson. The domino effect on loaning Clyne out seems to be overlooked.

You just leaving Wijnaldum out for effect?

Clyne leaving on loan on Jan 31 wouldnt have been a big thing! But right now? When are Joe and Joel back?

it always gets a bit strange when someone is trying to shoehorn sh*t to try and push an agenda.

Personally, I like Clyne; a good pro, a decent defender, and he had his moments in attack, just perhaps not enough of them for Klopp.
I hope he does well, and can get his career back on track.

      Not odd, miss understood.
I don't mind Gini + Hendo + Shaq or Gini + Fabinho + Shaq etc..
I don't really want Hendo pairing with Milner and the more midfielders covering RB the more the probability of that occuring is.

What if Milner covers right back like he did at wolves?
Personally I'd highly doubt unless of absolute disaster Fabinho plays right back for us

I don't blame Clyne for wanting to leave to get playing time, right now he 3rd or 4th choice depending on how you look at it (TAA, Gomez, Milner). i always liked him a lot and felt he was under used by Klopp but clearly letting go on loan while we are in the midst of a title race shows Klopp doesn't feel we need him. I hope he can have a good loan spell and will interest clubs in buying him come the summer.

Nothing really misunderstood about you leaving out half the midfield to suit an agenda.
      I'll leave it there though.

Not a big fan of weakening the team in January,
but then Clyne played one game all season so I'll not get wound up by it.

Milner at RB I'm okay with actually. Fabinho at RB would be a step backwards in my opinion, regardless where he plays at Brazil. Brazil have other DM options, Fabinho is our best DM I think.

Bit surprised if we let Clyne leave.
Good player, and we're coming to the business end of the season.
Sure. we have other players that can step in, but not sure they'd be as good there as Nat.

You're just upset if he played RB then Henderson will play in midfield.

Wouldn't have let Clyne go myself but it's not the doomsday scenario many of you lot seem to think it is.

Yet Fabinho hasnā€™t really been playing as a true DM and when he has played deep he has given the ball away a lot

Perhaps heā€™s gone so JĆ¼rgen can see heā€™s getting game time, with a deal he can be recalled if we need him before the end of the season.
Better that than calling on him later with no minutes under his belt !

Given the ball away a lot?

Revealing your true nature there Mr Henderson  ;D

BTW did Hendo play as a ā€œTrueā€ DM last night?

Amazing how the ones accusing others of having a bias against certain players in reality have a sub conscious bias themselves  :o

I personally don't have a problem with people calling our #6 a DM. Essentially, the #6's main priority in our system is to neutralize attacks and keep the ball ticking, just like any other DM, right? Yes, our #6 will have more freedom to venture forward, but that isn't their primary function.

I also read that Hendo has been playing more like a regista at times (can't remember who said it tbh), but don't you have to be a bit of a baller and pass master to play that role? Isn't a regista more or less the same as a deep lying playmaker but slightly higher up? It's certainly something I haven't seen Hendo play as, nor have I seen it utilized in Klopp's system.

I kinda swayed away from using DM as there seem to be some who assume you mean a static midfield, so these days, I  just call it deepest midfield or #6 :D

Just like the double pivot, double 6, double 8 or whatever, they are primary same things? One usually goes, one usually stays, or at times, both stays, right?

End of the day, this is just a forum where people just use words and numbers for formations and roles without any real context, I just don't think we should get too bogged down on it unless someone goes into detail which clarifies things. Sorry for the random rant!

Anyway, back on topic, I just noticed Clyne's move is only 6 months! Maybe he can prove himself (again) to be PL standard, and when he returns and Klopp decides to sell, maybe we can get a fair bit for him in the summer!
