Has any team qualified for the knockout stages after losing their first 4 matches? Is it mathematically possible?

To give you a short answer, it is possible. In this situation if Zagreb and Olympiacos draw both games against each other and lose their other remaining games Arsenal can go through if they beat both of these teams. 7 is usually the very least that a team needs to qualify though.

      Fewest points achieved yet advanced:
      2013/14 - Zenit (6 pts) [L-D-W-D]
      1995/96 - Legia Warsaw (7) [W-L-W-D]
      1999/00 - Dynamo Kiev (7) [L-L-D-W]
      2001/02 - Liverpool (7 - 2nd group stage) [L-D-D-D]
      2002/03 - Lokomotiv Moscow (7) [L-D-L-L]
      2005/06 - Werder Bremen (7) [L-L-D-L]
      2005/06 - Rangers (7) [W-L-D-D]
      2013/14 - Galatasaray (7) [L-D-W-L]
      2014/15 - Basel (7) [L-W-L-W]

Those are the total points that those teams gained and the results of their first 4 games. Arsenal could qualify with 7 points too if Olympiacos and D.Zagreb beat each other, Arsenal beats both of them and they also manage to pick up a point in one of the games against Bayern. No team has ever gone through after losing the first 4 though.

A team could only advance with six points in a case where when one team wins ALL their games, which in this case it is quite possible.

But what a night of Champions League football! It was somehow a little bitter for me too watching what Luis used to do for US, now doing for another team. But nonetheless what a finish. Some other great goals and overall a high quality night of footy made even better with Arse and Chavs both losing. I don't actually mind seeing one CL spot taken away from English football tbh. The mentality in this club should be going for the league every season and not aspiring to get into that "prestigious" 4th place.

And people say the Premiership is the best league in the world?! No F***ing chance. The standard has dropped massively over the last few years. The time that there was 2 or 3 English teams in the Semi Finals are long gone.

That's technically not true. In 2013/14 Atletico won 5 and drew 1 when Zenit went through with only 6 points.

Man City are having a shocker away at Gladbach

Edit: Then they equalise :D Otamendi. They had a goal denied in the lead up to it. These 5th officials are F***ing useless, he was staring right into the net and still couldn't see that the ball had crossed the line.

He was like that on Saturday as well when they got pumped by Spurs. He's got the tools but I don't think he has the intellectual application to make the most out of them....which I suppose is another way of saying he's as thick as pig sh*t.

Sterling so far looks like what I expected him to be a younger Shaun Wright Phillips.

Ottamendi a 40m defender someone had a very good laugh there.

Watching the game in an Irish pub in Santiago, chile. Down here for a job. Wherever you go in the world you can always rely on finding an Irish bar to watch the footy!

Will say this again. Compared to Heynkes' Dortmund copying Bayern from three years ago, this Bayern side are f**king boring. Guardiola isn't all that but maybe I'm being influenced by the fact that we all found out that old Pep was a bit of a c**t last season.

Fabulous 2-0 win that for Arsenal. Wenger doing Guardiola - Bayern with 70% possession utterly pathetic with it.

And where does Bellerin get all that pace??! Incredible sprint for that second goal to cross for Ozil!

They are sooooooooo boring. Effective, though, as they had the league wrapped up sooner under Pep than Heyncks, but still very boring to watch.

Unbelievable save from Neuer on Walcott's header. But he pretty much did a Mignolet on Giroud's goal.

True that but then again with Munich buying up the best Dortmund had to offer they instantly made the competition less fierce. A somewhat cowardly transfer policy and it makes you even angrier when you see just how mismanaged Gotze is at Munich compared to his time under Klopp at Dortmund.

When you see how renowned managers like Ferguson and Guardiola have fu**ed up Kagawa and Gotze respectively it only makes Klopp look even more brilliant....our Jürgen Klopp.

Still can't believe I'm typing that!

When will Pellegrini learn about playing a 4-4-2 in Europe? It's not worked for them before properly and it's not looking like it's going to work for them tonight. Sevilla are waltzing through the midfield with ease. De Bruyne providing absolutely no cover for his left back atm.
