Henderson doesn't have the guile or grit in him , I can't think of any particular game where he grabbed it by the scruff of the neck and changed things around . He may be Captain but what does that say about the team as a whole ?
yes exactly.
Henderson being captain says less about him and more about the team in general.
it's about having a winning mentality. Before coming to us Sakho had spent his entire career, both academy and professional, at PSG---one of the most successful clubs in French football history, where they inculcate into your brain from a young age that winning is everything.
Compare and contrast to Henderson who had spent his entire academy and professional career at.... Sunderland. No one cares if you don't qualify for CL at Sunderland. Hell no one cares if you even lose at Sunderland, except two games out of the season against Newcastle. This is the problem with bringing in midtable players; apart from them usually just not being good enough, they've never felt the pressure to win, ever---they've been at clubs who are fine just not getting relegated. You can't just totally change an attitude that a player has had for probably ten years or more. Look at Carroll, Downing, Adam, Henderson, Lallana, Lambert, Allen, etc---none of them really cared if we win or not. Why would Henderson lose any sleep if we don't qualify for CL??? He's just happy to be at the club!
whereas players like Suarez, Coutinho, Sakho, Can, etc, they've been at some of the biggest clubs in the world, clubs who demand success above all else, Ajax, Inter, PSG, Bayern etc. You see how much they want to win.
That's why out of the current options I would've given it to Sakho. Playing and winning is part of his footballing DNA. hence why he stormed out when he wasn't even in the team for the derby last season. Do you think Henderson would storm out if he weren't in the team? No, because he knows he's arrived at a club that's way above his paygrade, and he's just happy to be here.
