He was brilliant the season he was 1st choice next to Virgil.

Just lost his confidence I think.

Like I said I wont be surprised if he does leave, maybe best for all tbh.

He's had a few injuries since then which have taken their toll plus Virg is a shadow of his former self since the assault by Pickford.

This is very true, on both counts.

After Virg came back from the Pickford injury we had one of our best seasons EVER, with Virg at the back.

The problem is he plays every game, even when he's injured. I've seen him play while having a visible limp before the game. It doesn't help that our midfield is bunk and Trent hates defending.

Thought was MOTM last night. The best midfielder on show. Gareth Bale moved from FB to further up. Trent is good enough to move further up the pitch.

He's a midfielder. Plain and simple. It's not a coincidence that he struggled at RB this year, and it's not a coincidence he's killing it in the middle of the park.

When there are guys who are amazing with the ball at their feet, you need to put them in position to have at their feet a lot. Since we've done this we've been transformed.

He’s been the difference since his hybrid roll came in. He’s all but guaranteed you Europa football next year.  Looks a different player and got his confidence back.

This new role for Trent has given him a new challenge and refocused the mind.

He is thriving really, and so as a result is the team.

Some of his play is just taken for granted at times. His pass to Darwin who fluffed his lines and trademark Coast to coast switch to Robbo are just 2 instances of his incredible natural ability to ping it.

Heard Klopp talking yesterday. It almost sounds like there's a chance we buy a new RB and he moves into MF, rather than keeping the current formation. As long ad he gets the ball more (like now ) Idc.

Timber from AJAX can play RB and CB. Put him at RB and let Trent move into the midfield with Mac Callister and mystery MF.

I wonder how many kilometres Trent is now doing in this position compared to his old one up and down that by line.

Don’t think they will bring in a right back - Trent is still playing that inverted role and stepping into the space when it’s there and then one of the midfielders moves out ( mainly Henderson ) and it’s working , don’t see it moving to a stage where TAA starts in that middle role and a new right back plays - it sort of defeats the object and whilst on the ball he is great there were still times where you can see it’s not natural off the ball

Konate has been very impressive in recent games when Trent has played his new role. He's quick, strong and reads the game well. Him and Trent have developed a good understanding. I don't think that Matip or Gomez would be able to replicate what Konate does if he had an injury.

Maybe another CB is more of a priority than RB?
