Very frustrating yesterday especially first half. So gifted and intuitivebut plays like he's in a trance at times........stupid booking and just downright dumb at times.

      Much better 2nd half.

He is gone. It is just so obvious. Not sure why some here do not want to accept it.

I think all three will stay. It would be incredibly stupid of us to let just one of them go on a free, and FSG squeeze every last penny they can get.

      Of course he's gone.

You only have to put yourself in his shoes and ask yourself why stay when you're in control of your own destiny and you know Madrid are chasing you. He's done everything he needs to do here.

The main thing is getting the other 2 tied down.

Should have offered him the deal last year and then sold him in the summer if he said no. Strange to leave it til now.

Still think there's a fair chance he stays. It would be absolute madness to let him leave on a free even if you only look at it from the narrow perspective of his market value. Then there is his actual value to the team, his potential to grow into perhaps the role of captain, and his position as top Scouser. The club has also helped him to this point, so I find it difficult to believe that there won't be a significant part of him that would prefer not to leave on a free. It doesn't seem to me to be in keeping with what we've heard from Trent either. So my money is still (just) on him signing a new deal albeit on absolutely bumper terms with all bells and whistles, agents fees, clauses etc

Maybe because there's been zero credible sources proving he's off.

Signed 3 or 4 new contracts at the club and none have been played out in the media

No hard feelings if the lad wants to go, he’s won everything with us & Real Madrid do have a nice young talented squad, I don’t think the opportunity will come around again…maybe that’s his thinking IF he’s thinking of leaving…

Words are just words when there's nothing behind them......just like your local ITK'r from July who said Trent had already agreed a new deal and would be confirmed once he regrouped with the lads for pre-season. Meaningless wasn't it.

The Salah and Van Dijk ones I kind of get - older players approaching the inevitable decline at some point soon and maybe the club thinks if things run down then they'll be in a position of power if the player is keen to stay.

This one though really does baffle me. He's probably our most valuable player and he's in the last 9 months of his deal. Letting a 100m asset go for free is one of the most un-FSG thinks we could ever do.

Wonder have we tried to tie him up and he's refused all offers so far?

That will be Macca, Owen and Trent leaving from Liverpool to Madrid for a combined sum of 8 million £ + Antonio Nunez in my life time. So basically 8 million £.

Think they're well and truly bending us over and that's without going into recent games against them!

Seems bizarre fans would care more about this from a financial standpoint than the club when it's the club losing out on multi millions in assets but there we are.

Can't wait to read Michael Edwards book in 2 years time after he leaves for a 2nd time detailing the decision behind all this.

      Maybe.

I find it hard to believe that Edwards and Hughes didn’t have this as a priority as soon as they arrived (especially considering we had a quiet summer window)

If he goes I’ll be disappointed he didn’t at least sign a deal with a release clause so we got some money for him but it is what it is.

It's how them fuckers work, make a big signing, then make a few other signings on free's  but will have done the job on unsettling the player the season before so they don't sign a new contract and move to Madrid.

Only one our fault was Macca, trying to sell him to Barca a few months earlier probably made his mind up.

For me he's just pretty ordinary when he's not finding his man with hollywood passes/crosses.

So many panicked clearances under no/minimal pressure.

Salah wasn't much better either and today we again see why Virgil is the most important 1 to renew.

Thought he was excellent today. Was involved plenty in attack and did well defensively. One of the easiest names to put on the team sheet every game.

I remember being at the match with my late brother and my dad the night before all that. We beat Villa 3-0 and macca was captain i think and scored at least one.

The next day i was in work and someone told me Liverpool had accepted a 12m bid from barca. I was in disbelief and by all accounts so was Macca. Anywho he spent the next few days in a hotel in spain as a back up plan to rivaldo who they ended up signing.

As you say ... i think after that fiasco, macca thought im outta here. And straight to barca's rivals.
