      Aug 25, 2015 11:17:21 pm
Liverpool have been drawn against Carlisle United in the 3rd Round of the League Cup.

It will be the first time since January 1977 that the two clubs formerly managed by Bill Shankly will face each other at Anfield.

League Two Carlisle beat Championship side QPR 2-1 at Loftus Road in the second round.

Third-round ties to be played in the week beginning 21 September:

      Middlesbrough v Wolves
Norwich City v West Brom or Port Vale
      Hull City v Swansea
      Leicester City v West Ham
      Aston Villa v Birmingham
      Tottenham v Arsenal
      Manchester United v Ipswich Town
      Liverpool v Carlisle United
      Crystal Palace v Charlton Athletic
      Fulham v Stoke City
      Sunderland v Manchester City
      Newcastle United v Sheffield Wednesday
      Reading v Barnsley or Everton
      Preston v Bournemouth
      Walsall v Chelsea
      Milton Keynes Dons v Southampton

This game is likely to be on the Wednesday as we play the Sunday before.

Nice to get a home draw, Carlisle will be buzzing for this though...no easy games in any cup competition.

Liverpool v Norwich sun 20th and we play Villa on the 26th, so yeah, this game is likely to be Wed 23rd Sept, first day of Autumn, lets hope us Kopites have something to shout and cheer about to keep us warm on the night  ;D

Two tasty derbies in that draw with Villa/Birmingham and Spurs/Arsenal
      Frankly, Mr Shankly

Fair play to Carlisle. Didn't know they beat QPR away. Fantastic result and probably their best in recent years - as MsG said they'll be well up for this match so we must be on our guard.

Once saw Carlisle play Peterborough United. Great game finished 3-3 and featured ex player David Raven who only had a couple of appearances under Rafa in 04-05. I think he played in that league cup quarter against Tottenham at WHL (Dec 2004) when we beat them on penalties. Probably the weakest Liverpool XI I can ever remember being fielded! :D

But Raven's long gone from Carlisle now. Now doing the business up north for Inverness Caley Thistle! From being managed by Rafa Benitez to now being managed by John Hughes!

Let's go one better this season and win the competition, compared to last season when we where knocked out by Chelski in the semis.
