      Robbie Threlfall - Player Thread

      From Hereford's Official website

Liverpool defender Robbie Threlfall has joined Hereford United on an initial one month emergency loan.

The 5'8 18 year-old is currently on a three year contract with The Reds and featured during their pre-season tour of the Far East in the Asia Trophy.

Robbie - predominantly a left-back, but who can also be deployed in central defence or on the left-wing - was promoted from Liverpool's academy to the senior set up at Melwood at the start of the 2006/07 season, having played a part in the Anfield club's FA Youth Cup successes in both 2006 and 2007.

A regular in the reserves, Threlfall has appeared for the first-team in a pre-season friendly at Wrexham, whilst he has also made his international debut for England U19s this year against Poland in February.

Threlfall's name featured prominently on television screens at the end of last season for his performance in Liverpool's FA Youth Cup triumph against Manchester United. He was named Man of the Match after scoring in normal time and in the penalty-shootout at Old Trafford as Liverpool overturned the 2-1 defeat they had suffered in the first-leg of the final at Anfield, where Threlfall also scored an own goal.

The youngster joins Hereford on an initial one-month emergency loan, with both first-choice central defenders Dean Beckwith and Karl Broadhurst missing due to injury and suspension respectively.

At present, it is unknown whether Threlfall will be permitted to take part in The Bulls' FA Cup tie against Leeds United on November 9.

Herefore are mid-table in League 2.  Let's hope he gets some games under his belt and comes back a more determined player.

      Robbie Threllfall Demands Loan Move
      Reply #1: Jul 14, 2008 05:43:52 pm
      http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11669_3818345,00.html

Liverpool starlet Robbie Threlfall is set for a loan move away from Anfield as Rafa Benitez looks for him to gain valuable first team experience.

The 19-year-old full-back is highly regarded at Anfield having come through the youth ranks and recently signed a three-year deal at the club.

Threlfall had a spell with Hereford last season and Benitez is keen to send him out on loan again as he continues his policy of farming out his best young players to aid their development.

The Reds have made the talented left-back available for loan and the news has alerted a number of clubs north and south of the border.

A couple of League One sides and SPL clubs are believed to be tracking the defender as they look to secure his services.

Threlfall is looking forward to the chance of moving out on loan as he looks to get regular action under his belt.

      Excited
"I have been informed that Liverpool are willing to let me go out on loan and I am relishing the prospect of playing on a regular basis," Threlfall told skysports.com.

"I am aware of some interest in me and I am prepared to go anywhere to continue my development.

"I believe going out on loan will prove a valuable experience in my bid to establish myself in the Liverpool first team in the future."

      -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Me and him went to the same school so I'd like to see him do well. Hope he can break into the side soon. He's a good player, we've seen that in the youth cup finals and the asian tour last year. This loan move can't do any harm, so hopefully he'll come back and make left back his own.

He's always looked good for the youth team hasn't he. Seen him play a game for Hereford last season and he stood out as one of the players with quality and determination on the pitch.

Will be interesting to see who he actually goes out on loan to.

I think its perfect that Rafa lets these boys go out on loan,It lets them gain more experience being part of a biggish team.

Shouldnt go to the SPL, rather him learn the rough and tumble of the lower leagues ie. the Championship football. Will do him a world of good.

Godwin Antwi went to Hartlepool (Jeff Stelling's team) and did very well gaining promotion there, a good football team. Yeah it be good to see him do well here, he is a versatile player and shown to be a good player with a great mentality after scoring an own goal against the Mancs in the youth cup final whichm he responded to by scoring at the right end at Old Toilet. Godd luck to him.

Didn't really "demand" a loan deal did he?  Sky Sports sensationalising things? Never!

I have mixed feelings about loans.  First team experience is good no question.  But I'm not sure how desirable it is for players at this age to be coached day in day out by average managers and coaches relative to Liverpool's.  There's always a danger the likes of Threlfall could pick up bad habits at Hartlepool that he wouldn't have at Anfield.

Its bad news at lower league clubs. They need to be at Championship level, or a big league one club at least.

Gone to Stockport for a month.

      From the offal

Left-back Robbie Threlfall will spend a month on loan at League One side Stockport County.

The emergency deal was completed on Friday just days after the 20-year-old returned from a loan spell at Hereford.

Threlfall, who graduated to Melwood ahead of the 2006-07 season, has yet to make his senior competitive debut for the Reds, though he did feature in the Asia Trophy in Hong Kong in July 2007.

His young career has already been packed with drama having taken part in Liverpool's successive FA Youth Cup triumphs.

The Scouser was at the centre of events when the Reds retained the trophy following a memorable victory over Man Utd in 2007.

After scoring an OG in the first leg, Threlfall bagged the only goal in the return at Old Trafford - thus setting up a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

He duly converted his own spot kick and was voted Liverpoolfc.tv's man of the match.

The youngster spent part of 2007-08 on loan at Hereford United. He has also represented England Under-19s.

Good luck to the lad.  Not really pushing the first team so I can see him getting a few loan deals till the end of the season.

Can't see this lad near our first team at the moment to be honest.

Insua is young and already number one and Aurelio (my number 2) has a few years in him still.

The arrival of Insua on to the scene has probably finished Dossena off.

However Aurelio is very injury prone and if something happened to Insua then I'm at a loss to see what we would do for left back (assuming Andrea goes).

I can't see Dossena being ditched this month even if he has had a sh*t start. Maybe its something we need to come back to in the summer.

Bradford City sign Liverpool defender Threlfall on loan

Threlfall made his England Under-19 debut against Poland in 2007
League Two Bradford City have signed Robbie Threlfall from Premier League side Liverpool on loan.

The 21-year-old former England Under-19 left-back, who can play in midfield, moves on an initial one-month deal.

The youngster already has League Two experience after previous loan spells at both Hereford and Northampton.

Threlfall, Peter Taylor's first signing as Bradford's new manager, goes straight into City's squad for Tuesday's night trip to Rochdale.

Liverpool-born Threlfall, who has had loan spells at Hereford in both the last two campaigns, made four appearances at Northampton earlier this season.

He also had a loan spell with Stockport County last season.

Can't see the lad making it here to be honest. Surprised he hasn't been sold yet.

      One down.

I still don't have total confidence in Insua at LB, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to give Robbie a shot at some point.

      Race on for Reds starlet
Left-back Threlfall seems set to leave Liverpool this summer upon the expiration of his contract.

The news has alerted a number of clubs to Threlfall's availability on a free transfer.

Threlfall has just ended a productive loan spell at Bradford where he made 17 appearances, scoring two goals for the League Two outfit.

A host of sides are believed to have kept tabs on Threlfall's progress during his time at Bradford and could now move for him this summer.
