He'd have been the first player I'd have looked to upgrade on this summer if I'm being honest, losing his place to Brad Jones last year was warning enough.

It was a master stroke to get Bogdan he clearly has put Mignolet under pressure for his spot.Oh no hang on Mignolet has no pressure on him.
He is sh*te and maybe our defence might be more secure if they didnt have him behind them

I think Can is a weak link in a back 3, he just doesn't have the awareness need for the position. Then again none of then do!

It's because he isn't even a defender! Definite weak link in a back three especially with awareness and communication being a prerequisite for such a job, something which he is struggling to do.

I'd honestly try Gomez in a back three and push Can up the field.

      Yep, agree Skip.

Do think this Villa side has a great chance of going down this season and I wouldn't miss them one bit.

I also thought that their first goal was Mig's fault. The ball traveled the whole 6 yard box and it was his to catch.
Agree and lucas could have made it harder for Hutton . Powerless for second its what they bought him for he is good as anyone in the air

Mignolet is a reserve keeper at best the mind boggles why we chose him instead of begovic

Didn't Begovic go dodgy the season we got Mignolet though?

Not as Dodgy as Mignolet . Think that was due to being stuck at Stoke and not getting a move looked fed up more than anything .

Not as easy playing at Stoke but as much as I thought Begovic was the more outstanding of the two before we bought Migs, he hasn't done much to impress since.

Not much emphasis/value gets put on goalies, it's a joke in comparison to the outfield team, buy a top goalie and most worries are gone. Spend huge or get a bargain, it'll be the difference between winning things or not.
They have the hardest job too.

How Mignolet hasn't learnt to catch a ball yet is one of life's greatest mysteries. You'd think after spending most of his life practising he'd get there one day. Belgian Dudek.

A welcome relief in the end.

I thought we bossed that and Villa for the first 60 or so minutes looked worse than Carlisle. However, they used their big lump to good effect. I think Sahko was done aerially on a couple of occasions against their big bloke up front, one for a goal too - the second one.

Great to see Sturridge find the net with two beautiful goals, him and Ings linked quite well.

Just glad we got the three points in the end though. God knows we needed them.

Wasn't he the second best last season, with just one clean sheet behind Hart?

      Watching us is hard work

there were small elements that were ok today, but we still gift goals away, play too slow, too predictable and seem lost on the pitch.

Im not sure what the three defenders are doing for the goals - Can has no idea about positioning (although for the 1st goal you should not need to know as the guy is standing right next to you) and Sakho let him have a run up for the 2nd goal.

on a positive Sturry notched 2 and we scored more than 1

Last season was when I decided the Golden Glove was meaningless. The fellas a complete liability - how he has got to 100 games shows how far our standards have slipped.

He almost set an equaliser up at 1-0 and he has to be bolder for their first goal. Should have come forward instead of scurrying sideways.

Catching a âš½ it would be a real start.

Yeah. Think that second was a great goal though. He could have launched himself better but I think the best he could have done there was give away a pen.âš½

Yeah I agree sometimes you have to admit it was a great cross where Gestede had a great angle and run onto the ball compared to our defender.

Correct, but does that mean he was better than, Cech, De Gea, Lloris, Forster & Begovic? Not a chance!! And I actually think Ospina, Adrian, Schmeichel and Howard are better keepers than him too!!

Playing 3 at the back means you are always more likely to have crosses coming into your box. As Mignolet is piss poor at crosses, this formation while it may be advantageous in other areas, is not really going to show our keeper in the best possible light.

We need to work harder to stop crosses into the box... just one of the many areas our defence struggles with.

Gestede did what Benteke should be doing for us but whatever way you dress it up we have absolutely no one who has good delivery from wide or byline which is why Benteke could find this first Season difficult in seeing as much of the ball as he has done
