Liverpool FC transfer rumours: Jürgen Klopp targets Barcelona goalkeeper
Could Jürgen Klopp's first Liverpool FC transfer target be goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen? That's according to reports today.

Ter Stegen joined Barcelona from Borussia Monchengladbach for £9m in the summer of 2014, apparently rejecting Klopp and Borussia Dortmund in order to move to the Camp Nou.

Klopp is said to be a great admirer of the 23-year-old, who has struggled for appearances as he has competed with Claudio Bravo for a first-team spot.

In fact, the German has made just four league appearances since moving to the Catalan giants.

Klopp is said to be ready to offer Ter Stegen an escape route from Barcelona.

Good luck persuading him to leave. He's played in 4 out of 10 league games, all of their Champions League games and their domestic cup games too. I'd hardly say he's not been playing so I'm not sure why he'd want to leave.

There's practically no way this happens. Reckon he'll be Barca's No. 1 next season if not by this season's end.

probably an upgrade on Mignolet but he hasn't half made some really stupid mistakes since he's been at Barca.

Probably? ??? He's only a young keeper though to be fair to him so has many, many years to improve.

I get what you're saying but not everyone gets better over time.

Mignolet is going to be 28 in March, has played almost 200 matches in the league, and he has gotten WORSE, not better.

      Based on what mate?

Has made a number of clangers when called upon in a side that dominates ball possession 70% of the match limiting the number of situations where the keeper is put under pressure.

Think Ter Stegen fits Barca's style a little bit better than Bravo, who at 32 probably isn't seen as a long-term solution. As his Spanish improves so will his organization, and while he definitely tends to play better in the Champions League than the odd La Liga appearance, he'll improve with more minutes.

Seriously can't see this one happening.  As much as Mignolet probably needs replacing, I think Klopp will look at other areas first.  Like trying to solidify the defence and maybe a winger first.

Making the defence solid means having a top quality keeper!

Is right, if the defence don't have confidence in the keeper then what's the point. They are all one defensive unit ultimately.

Never heard of him either but would love it to be true. Haven't seen that much of Ter Stegen and he had a rough start to his Barca career (that's the bit I did see mostly) also saw some of him in the Bundesliga which he seemed a really top prospect but the overriding thing above any of this is we have Bogdan and Mignolet absolutely anyone of any quality would be an enormous upgrade.

Something tells me this one is too good to be true, Barca willing to let him go so soon after paying £8m?! for him seems a little crazy after so few games. Can only think it is him forcing his way out which I doubt Barca will bow to, live in hope though.

I don't know much about him, but given some of the nightmares our current keepers have given us, he can't be much worse (famous last words...).

That said, he wouldn't be at Barca for no reason and he is still very young for a goalkeeper. Would I take a punt? Go on.

Not sure about this one.  If he's so great why isn't he starting for Barca?  I mean if we want to win the league shouldn't we have a keeper capable of starting for top clubs like Barca, Bayern etc?  I don't watch them regularly but if I remember correctly he made some big mistakes last season in the lead-up to them winning the CL.

Not that he wouldn't be better than Mignolet---it would be extremely difficult to find someone worse than Mignolet.  But I'm afraid we're going to do one of those "slight" upgrades, where we get someone only a little bit better, rather than upgrading to a top, top player.  We should've gone for Cech in the summer, he could've been our keeper for the next ten years.  But Rodgers was too busy obsessing over Benteke.  Thanks Rodgers for F***ing us over one more time.

If we can finish in the top four and Spurs don't, I think we can make a big push for Lloris.  We can put up with Mignolet until the end of the season and hope to move for Lloris then.

Luis Enrique has two very good keepers in Bravo and Ter Stegen and has been rotating them. Bravo plays in the league while Ter Stegen plays in cup and European games. This means Ter Stegen was their starting goalkeeper during their entire winning UCL campaign last season and has also played in all of their UCL games this season iirc. So I wouldn't say the fact he doesn't start every game means he's been doing badly. Bravo is a quality keeper as well and that way I guess both are happy - Ter Stegen plays less but he's still quite young (only 23) and that way he plays in the supposedly most important games. Personally I've always thought he was pretty good since Gladbach and would be pleased if we got him.
