Liverpool FC transfer rumours: Jürgen Klopp targets Barcelona goalkeeper
Could Jürgen Klopp's first Liverpool FC transfer target be goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen? That's according to reports today.

Ter Stegen joined Barcelona from Borussia Monchengladbach for £9m in the summer of 2014, apparently rejecting Klopp and Borussia Dortmund in order to move to the Camp Nou.

Klopp is said to be a great admirer of the 23-year-old, who has struggled for appearances as he has competed with Claudio Bravo for a first-team spot.

In fact, the German has made just four league appearances since moving to the Catalan giants.

Klopp is said to be ready to offer Ter Stegen an escape route from Barcelona.

Good luck persuading him to leave. He's played in 4 out of 10 league games, all of their Champions League games and their domestic cup games too. I'd hardly say he's not been playing so I'm not sure why he'd want to leave.

Probably? ??? He's only a young keeper though to be fair to him so has many, many years to improve.

I get what you're saying but not everyone gets better over time.

Mignolet is going to be 28 in March, has played almost 200 matches in the league, and he has gotten WORSE, not better.

      Based on what mate?

Has made a number of clangers when called upon in a side that dominates ball possession 70% of the match limiting the number of situations where the keeper is put under pressure.

Think Ter Stegen fits Barca's style a little bit better than Bravo, who at 32 probably isn't seen as a long-term solution. As his Spanish improves so will his organization, and while he definitely tends to play better in the Champions League than the odd La Liga appearance, he'll improve with more minutes.

Seriously can't see this one happening.  As much as Mignolet probably needs replacing, I think Klopp will look at other areas first.  Like trying to solidify the defence and maybe a winger first.

Never heard of him either but would love it to be true. Haven't seen that much of Ter Stegen and he had a rough start to his Barca career (that's the bit I did see mostly) also saw some of him in the Bundesliga which he seemed a really top prospect but the overriding thing above any of this is we have Bogdan and Mignolet absolutely anyone of any quality would be an enormous upgrade.

Something tells me this one is too good to be true, Barca willing to let him go so soon after paying £8m?! for him seems a little crazy after so few games. Can only think it is him forcing his way out which I doubt Barca will bow to, live in hope though.

I don't know much about him, but given some of the nightmares our current keepers have given us, he can't be much worse (famous last words...).

That said, he wouldn't be at Barca for no reason and he is still very young for a goalkeeper. Would I take a punt? Go on.

Not sure about this one.  If he's so great why isn't he starting for Barca?  I mean if we want to win the league shouldn't we have a keeper capable of starting for top clubs like Barca, Bayern etc?  I don't watch them regularly but if I remember correctly he made some big mistakes last season in the lead-up to them winning the CL.

Not that he wouldn't be better than Mignolet---it would be extremely difficult to find someone worse than Mignolet.  But I'm afraid we're going to do one of those "slight" upgrades, where we get someone only a little bit better, rather than upgrading to a top, top player.  We should've gone for Cech in the summer, he could've been our keeper for the next ten years.  But Rodgers was too busy obsessing over Benteke.  Thanks Rodgers for F***ing us over one more time.

If we can finish in the top four and Spurs don't, I think we can make a big push for Lloris.  We can put up with Mignolet until the end of the season and hope to move for Lloris then.

Luis Enrique has two very good keepers in Bravo and Ter Stegen and has been rotating them. Bravo plays in the league while Ter Stegen plays in cup and European games. This means Ter Stegen was their starting goalkeeper during their entire winning UCL campaign last season and has also played in all of their UCL games this season iirc. So I wouldn't say the fact he doesn't start every game means he's been doing badly. Bravo is a quality keeper as well and that way I guess both are happy - Ter Stegen plays less but he's still quite young (only 23) and that way he plays in the supposedly most important games. Personally I've always thought he was pretty good since Gladbach and would be pleased if we got him.

I agree with a lot of what you say Fed, but that start to you post is a little off - would you not want someone like Sanchez in the team?

This lad has, as you say made some high profile errors, but that fact that he is at Barca and on the bench at 23 tells me there is something with this lad.

Also, I have no problem taking a 'second string' player who is great and making him a first teamer. This is what we used to do and it worked out pretty well then...

Some glaring errors in big games but you could chop his left arm off and he'd still be better than Mignolet.

We should go for quality over quantity this winter/summer and Ter Stegen would be a huge huge signing to start this off.

      Bogdan is leaving?!

If we are really after ter Stegen, it is a masterstroke of a decision from Klopp to give Mignolet a 5-yr deal and make him the #2, so even if we sell, we get a bit more than we got him for!

Yep that's why the whole defence falls to bits with him between the sticks he gives them no confidence . They should be complimenting each other but in this case the sh*t runs down their legs .

Barca will not sell him as they view Marc as their future no.1, they would rather sell Bravo than him.

We should go all in for Bernd Leno, and have Karius as a back-up if Leverkusen are refusing to sell him, but i doubt that for around 17-18 mil pounds they won't sell.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen to Liverpool: Reds 'have £10m bid rejected' as Barcelona want for £20m for goalkeeper

It’s claimed that Liverpool have already moved for Ter Stegen with a £10m bid, but were rebuffed by the Catalan side who would be unwilling to let the goalkeeper leave unless the Reds double their offer.

If this is true, wtf? Just pay the 20m!!!

Ter stegen won't happen, bravo is number 1 and deservedly so but ter stegen will become number 1 in next year or two.

How do you forecast that? Bravo has been nothing short of immense for a couple of seasons.

Ter Stegen is too good to be #2. Their B team GK Masip has earned good respect having come through the academy. I dont see the German sticking around for a long time, just like the Cech-Courtios situation. We could try our luck before other CL teams make their first bid.

Ter Stegen, R.Rodriguez, Pjanic, A.Teixiera with Sturridge and Ings fit = PL, or at the very least, runners up :)

Ricardo Rodriguez would be a seriously expensive addition; the TC should be looking into Jonas Hector of FC Koln, who is flying under the radar but is a consistent performer.

All the names you've mentioned bar the two already in our squad and well-known and hyped up, and clubs all over Europe would love to have them. If we don't start scouting smarter and looking outside the ranks of established clubs we are going to stay in the mire of overpaying for under performers.

They are asking for 20m, not 50m, so I don't see the problem in paying 20m for a strong young keeper with experience that can potentially become exceptional. Oh, he is also a big improvement to Migs, just look at his performances in the CL last season.

bravo has been immense and is now into his 30's, as for masip really don't see him as number one calibre. Ter stegen has a lot to learn and is not at bravo's level yet but is playing all the cup games.

Dude, 30s aint nothing for GKs. Look at Cech. Van der Saar was immense until he was 39! If Ter Stegen is keen on regular game time and has a good agent, I doubt his stay at Barca beyond this summer.

I can't say he is, mate. He gets caught out of position a fair bit.

He hasn't been tested too much in terms of shots but his movement is pretty poor. Could be rusty without a continuous run in the side, though.

But ter Stegen wants to stay at Barcelona and challenge for his place alongside fellow goalkeepers Claudio Bravo and Jordi Masip.

“I’m very happy here and I want to stay here, with the life I have,” he said. “It’s a lovely place to live.

“You can never relax and you always have to give everything. Both myself and Claudio and Jordi (Masip) want to play and we work week after week to do so.

If Jürgen signs a new 'keeper he'll have to be more than just 'competition' (IMO) Billy.

As for PL proven - like everything else; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but no one should dismiss it's validity. Barcelona have at least two lads who are deffo PL proven - one called Mach or Masch (something like that) and another called Louie or Lewis (a bloke from Uruguay)... I actually had to check back there Billy - my first game was Spurs [0-0] in April '71 and I know that was the year Tommy left but when I checked, it was actually Clemence who kept goal that day. So, long story short - sadly no.

An excellent goalie replaced by another excellent goalie,as was the system under Bill Shankly  Ray Clemence did a couple of seasons in the reserves and when he replaced Tommy he was good and ready.
