Connected to the fact there's an extra 8,500 people going the game mate.
It’s a great feeling - the smug satisfaction of finding a sneaky, quiet parking space.
But many Liverpool FC fans could be disappointed on Saturday when they drive to their usual spot near Anfield for the first home game of the season.
Fans will no longer be able to use hundreds of parking spaces on 20 nearby streets, which have been reserved for residents only during certain hours.
Council bosses are worried about the impact of thousands more fans looking to park because of the stadium’s newly increased capacity.
The new Main Stand , officially unveiled today, has an extra 8,500 seats, meaning tomorrow’s game against Leicester could see the highest attendance since 1977.
The move effectively extends the current large match parking zone around Anfield and Goodison Park to the southwest, with the same timing restrictions for anyone other than residents.
Signs which read “resident permit parking area only past this point” have been put up in streets affected by the new rules, which come into force this weekend.
Drivers who park without a permit could be slapped with a £70 fine.
Only residents and their visitors will be able to park on them between 5pm and 10pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 6pm Saturday to Sunday.
Letters containing two temporary permits are expected to land on the doormats of around 800 homes on affected streets on Saturday.
But council officials stress receiving a permit does not give drivers’ permission to park on single or double yellow lines.
