Bbc gossip page says that Matip has turned down the contract at his club and looks likes to join us.

Yeah, The Anfield Wrap lads said on one of their shows yesterday that they've heard that he'll sign for us.

Exactly the type of signing we need to make at centre back in terms of him not costing us anything. We should not be throwing money at a position where we'll get a marginal upgrade at best. Getting this lad in on wages and a signing on fee is perfect.

Thought all the gossip was this deal would be complete and announced yesterday but I guess it's not quite done yet.

Supposedly it had mate but then they offered him a new contract and doubled his wages, so everyone thought he was staying.  Rumours last week were that he was going to reject the new contract and we'd be announcing he'd signed a pre contract agreement with us by yesterday.

No way they pay him £100k a week which is what he would get here.

Do you think we will pay him that? I'm not up to scratch with the rumours.

Ayre and FSG are so incompetent and F**k everything up on sight that we will probably offer lower than what he is getting, but throw in a packet of Monster Munch to 'sway the deal'.

Liverpool FC are set to sign Joel Matip this summer after securing a pre-contract agreement with the Schalke defender.

The Cameroon international will move to Anfield at the end of the season having rejected the German club's offer of a new deal in favour of a switch to Merseyside.

Matip, 24, was identified as a top target by the Reds ahead of the January window, and will move to England once his contract expires in June. He can play as a central defender as well as in midfield, and is seen by Jürgen Klopp as an ideal addition to his squad ahead of the German's first full campaign in charge.

Liverpool have seen off interest from home and abroad to sign Matip, with Newcastle and Sunderland among those linked previously.

Klopp has already secured the signing of young Serbian midfielder Marko Grujic from Red Star Belgrade. The 19-year-old's capture was confirmed in January, but he will spend the rest of this season on loan with the Serbian club.

Anytime I have a bad feeling about our club, it is usually the opposite.

I love how Sky sources come alive an hour or two after every other news outlet reports the deal Surely they don't still think that they break the news first?

I've seen Schalke play a few times before but never really focused on one player in particular so I'm not sure how good this lad is. I'll be looking to watch as many of their games from now until the end of the season to see what he's like though.

I think both Newcastle and Sunderland would love to be mid table mate although I think we could claim that honour.

not the typical British centre half stereotype, not massive but pretty quick, mobile and good on the ball, not a big physical presence but size isn't everything
