Depending on how open the owners are with the cheque book in the summer, it wouldn't surprise me to see us make an enquiry or even a bid.

Would be a starter for sure ahead of Couts, Firmino and Lallana.

If he is too come here I would imagine it will be in the summer.

      Fingers crossed.

A fee of £37m is being bandied about or offers in the region of no doubt, class midfielders don't come cheap.

Are we really up to spending £37m on another attacking mid. I understand the whole, "when a player like him becomes available..." but will this be at the expense of positions we need to fill. Namely a half decent goalkeeper, a quality centre back and a goalscorer. I hate to be this person but if only we hadn't signed Firmino. He might come good but Gotze is a class above him.

That in itself is reason enough to sign him.
False economies are the reason for a need to improve the areas of play you mention, the owners need to up their game.

      GOTZE TALKS LIVERPOOL RUMOURS

Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze has been speaking at a news conference in Doha this morning where Bayern remain on a training camp. Regarding his future, he said he’s not going anywhere in the January window. There had been newspaper reports Liverpool were interested in signing him .

"I can rule out a move to Liverpool this winter. I don't know where the rumours about Klopp and me are coming from. I have not heard anything. You should ask Klopp if he wants me at Liverpool. If he wants me, he should approach me.

"I have six nice months ahead of me. It is always annoying when you cannot play and cannot help the team. It is only normal that you think about things like that. But you have to look at the positives and build on those."

Interesting comments by Gotze, especially the bit in bold.

He's injured right now, been out for some time.

I imagine for us he would be what ozil is for Arsenal.

Players can be sold and more than one player can be bought. Just saying. That's not aimed strictly at Firmino either - who I'm actually confident can come good.  :f_whistle:

Especially if it means a player like Gotze can come in. Still in disbelief that we're even linked to a player like him, let alone that he's mentioned he'd like to come in.

I rate Coutinho above Götze. I don't think that Mario would immediately break in to the first team if I'm honest. He can finish to a certain degree and is able to pick out a pass, but he simply hasn't been near the Bayern first team for a bit.

I'd love to be proven wrong if/when we get him, but I'm just unsure for now.

He's not been near the team because he's been injured. He'd get into our first team for sure.

He might, he might not. I do think he's quite overrated.

He'd walk into the team. Coutinho plays well for 1/3rd of the season and Firmino and Lallana have 3 goals between them this season. This is the level we need to buy from now on. Enough of the "prospects".

Okay so how about instead of making a snide comment about it, please explain why it's a "funny post"?

Would like constructive criticism of my opinion rather than a simple, perfidious post.

Very interesting comments from Gotze. Don't usually comment on transfer speculation but those quotes are interesting.

once upon a time a player of this calibre would not have warranted a mention. We are still Liverpool Football Club maybe someone could remind the owners
