That said, it does seem a bit like a committee signing - Andy Hunter and co know mediocrity very well, and as already stated on here, seem intent on bringing the club down to their Sunday League level. This may sound completely irrational, but if it is on the committee's recommendation, then this is going to be a disaster.

      It is completely irrational.

Think we needed a bit of backup so hopefully he does well if and when called upon. It's really up front/midfield we need one/two real talents.

Is this real life?  Steven Caulker?  is Brendan Rodgers still pulling the strings at the club?!

Somehow I doubt very much that Klopp walked into the room and said "get me Steven Caulker."

we used to be champions of Europe.

now our standard is "well at least he's better than playing Lucas out of position."

      christ the standards have plummeted.

The last centre back that played in our most recent European Cup Final was signed for £2.6M from a little Dutch club.

Caulker is so good in the air that he couldn't even get a game for Saints.
We weren't going to buy anyone at all, Jürgen has said as much. We are only doing this as a bandage till our players are fit. So who do you think we should be buying? Or do you just like moaning for moaning's sake?

Federer mate , it's a short term loan with no strings attached . Would you prefer Ilori or Enrique ? because that's the alternative , not an ideal situation but at least it's worth a go .

      2 questions.

Can he head a ball defending set peices?

Can he head a ball to score from our attacking set peices?

Ok do you think its better we play Lucas as CD , instead of in midfield
its loan deal ffs, and we all know it happened because of our current defensive emergency
and who knows what it will turn up to be, maybe its wishful thinking but !!!

We were linked with him when Rodgers was here and Steven was at Cardiff at the time.

Never really stood out for me but he has always played for relegation battling sides you would have to be an exceptional defender to stand out week in week out in a poor side.

He deserves the benefit of the doubt in my books, knocks in a last minute header tomorrow to win the game and his loan would already be justified.

well it's a fair question.  Why did we bring back Ilori if we're just going to go out and bring in Caulker?  Ilori has played literally one game for us.  Sakho is fit.  So we'd only have one non-regular player in the CB pair.

Why not give Ilori a go against Arsenal?

Or do you just like moaning for moaning's sake?

"moaning for moaning's sake."  You act like this is some sort of perfect deal, with no downside whatsoever, that is so flawless that if anyone criticizes it, they must be moaning just to have a moan.

He's rubbish, he couldn't cut it at Spurs, he got relegated with both Cardiff and QPR, he couldn't even get a game at Saints.  On top of that we have a top young CB in Ilori who hasn't even gotten a chance to show yet what he's worth.

There are all sorts of reasons why this is a bad deal.

Could it be that until Jürgen seen him run out of puff against the mighty Exeter on Friday no one had a clue what state he would be in. How long do you think he would last against Arsenal?

Maybe Ilori isn't fit enough yet?  Do you think then that Klopp just grabbed the first person he saw? Did you read what Klopp said about the deal?

To add to that maybe Jürgen just doesn't think Ilori is good enough.

Rodgers certainly didn't nor did 2 coaches at Villa.

Ilori may not be fit, but neither is Caulker---he hasn't played since NOVEMBER 28TH.  Ilori just played a few days ago and is at least fitter than Caulker is.

I read what Klopp said.  And it's left me convinced that the damn "committee" is forcing it on him.  “Caulker was not in the best situation in Southampton, didn’t play too much, but this is January and we want to have the best solution for us and we are absolutely convinced that Steven is the best solution for us."

Klopp himself has said outright "he can't even get a game at Saints."  Don't you think we should be aiming a little higher than players who can't even get into the team at clubs that are BELOW us?  How is "the best solution" to bring in players that aren't even good enough for teams that are WORSE than we are?

So you're saying that Jürgen doesn't think Ilori is good enough but he knows that Caulker, who hasn't even played at Southampton, is definitely good enough.
