Flanno did ok last night but was rusty which is expected. Doesn't deserve MOTM just because he has been out for 18months. Can't shout enough how much I love flanno by the way, but he wasn't great last night.

He may not have had a great game for his 2013-14 standard (of course he is bit rusty), but voted for him because it was certainly an excellent one for the standard of people returning from long injuries, and because of the contrast he offers compared to our other full backs.
To resume he is the only one we have who seem to have mastered the art of defensive positionning. Moreno (especially) and even Clyne (to a lesser extent) should watch vids of Flanagan. He's highlighting what is lacking in their game with every move.

Considering he has been out for a year and a half then he put in a great shift yes. 105 minutes so fair play to the lad. He wasn't our best performer though which is my point. Not disputing the effort he put in, but performance wise he was average.

the thread is for "Man of the Match" and he definitely manned up.You simply cant take away he has been out for the best part of two years and performed really well his "performance" level will improve now with game time

We did play pretty poor in areas or lacked cutting edge upfront, but their goal shouldn't of stood in the first place, plus I'm extra specially pleased because of that pleb Mark Hughes's attitude in the post match interview saying it's perfectly ok for an offside goal to count because it's allowed if you play better. I already can't stand the tight suit wearing knobhead as it is.
At times it didn't look like we were playing at home, I'd swap Flanno over the the left and have Clyne on, I wouldn't play Can unless desperate or always as a sub.
Instead of 2 Cbs, I'd like 3, 5 at the back. It's one of the only ways to try to fix the leaks in defence, I know this game wasn't about defensive errors but we'll need to be tight when Man City play us. Not park the bus, added insurance for when the wing backs bomb up the pitch. There were times last night when the whole area on our flanks was open to run into.

Few months into the job and already in a final, that's pretty amazing really. :)

Moreno aside the 3 other defenders were fine which bearing in mind against a duo like Walters and Crouch is no small feat.
The issue was our midfield.......they were non existent when they were not giving the ball away they offered minimal protection to the back 4. The midfield battle was re soundly won by Stoke.

I can't understand all the praise for Lucas I thought he was terrible didn't break up play at all. After 60min he was treading in treacle and only improved once he moved into the back 4.

I think on of the biggest factors in Liverpool lack of a solid display was that too many of our players last night had too many wayward passes with no real pressure on them. Henderson,Can,Firmino and Milner being amongst the biggest offenders....  As for Mignolet, taking nothing away from him last night. In fairness he had little to do thanks mainly to Sakho. And  as I have always maintained, The more a Goal keeper or Defender has to do; the more likely of them making mistakes.... The penalties... well we always knew that he(Mignolet) was good at that.

Personally thought he was poor on the ball and it was noticeable from the off the limited options we had out wide on the right. It made me realise just how much Clyne gets forward.

I'm not into stats but other than Can I'd be surprised if anybody gave the ball away more than Flanno did last night. There were 3 or 4 times he got out muscled/bullied by Arnautovic too (although I think Arnautovic is a handful and I'd have him here!).

Flanno is one of my favourite players, I love the lad and he is exactly what we need at times a bit of honesty and grit in the team, he always gives it his all and fair play to him for completing 105 minutes.

I don't think that merits a motm vote though just because he got minutes under his belt. Performance wise he wasn't our best player which is all im saying. Was far from our worst mind you, but not our best.

Great result, horrible game but some outstanding performances amongst the lads.

Migs saved our bacon in the shootout.

Sakho for the last ditch blocks.

      Lucas was his imperious best.

Firmino was everywhere and never stopped.

      Allen for the winning penalty.

For me though, my motm went to Flanno.  Ok he wasn't necessarily the best player on the pitch but to put in that performance, after such a long layoff was a joy to behold.

      Welcome back lad!!!

Well done to John Achterberg!!! Behind every penalty strategy is a team of people who analyses where the takers' favorite spots are.

Stevie: Germans don't miss from 12 yards.
Can's miss was one of the very few German penalty misses I've seen.
      Now bring on the blues!

It was his Turkish half that missed!! ;)

Great to get to a final. 4 years without a trophy is an eternity. Now we have a chance of landing one

However playing like we did last night and we wont be ending that drought. Shocking display. One which highlighted a few things that maybe id ignored or hoped would pass.

Moreno at left back will cost us more games then it wil ever win us. Defending is out of his grasp. He makes Konchesky look like Maldini. Going the other way hes ok so why not leave him as a left sided midfielder with a good left back behind him?

Our midfield is pathetic. No vision in there no guile. They are all grafters and having 4 in the 1 team is a joke. Can has potential but hes stalled in his development. Id rest him from the team for a game or 3. Jesus how many times did we give the ball away last night between Can Henderson Lucas and Milner?

Firmino as a 1 up front at home aint working and probably never will. Whatever joy we get away from home is not being replicated at Anfield.

I must admit to being fairly muted last night despite winning. I was disappointed with what I seen being produced from a Liverpool team, particularly at home in a cup semi final

Met John Bishop at half-time, told him it was much better meeting Rob Guttman & Neil Atkinson from The Anfield Wrap on the way in, though having a bevvy (or three) with WAHS was a highlight as well.

It went pretty downhill after you headed off.

I Know the performance of the team was poor last night and has been for a while where we have struggled to dominate but Klopp has got us over the line & into the first Cup final of the season with a injury ravaged squad.

What is it they say about champions winning whilst playing poor?

Poor game, yes, but who cares, no one will remember the 'actual' game in years to come, but we can say we've got to yet another Wembley final, the atmosphere on the Kop was electric last night, was a pleasure to be there, I must admit I'd thought we'd blown it when we couldnt score in the 90 minutes, not that we had hardly any shots on goal, I couldn't understand why we weren't busting a gut to get a goal back after their dubious goal in the dying seconds of the first half, the last thing I wanted was extra time and pens, making a late night back even later.
Didn't feel at all confident when it went into extra time and had that horrible churning in my tummy that a penalty shoot out was on the cards, but at the end of the day we came out winners, was great singing down on the Kop concourse...We're on the march we're Jurgens army, were all going to Wem-ber-ley  ;D :aaliverpool2xt1: :kop5cf8koxp6:
      Now the scramble for tickets....

Exactly - the 120 minutes was pretty dismal.

In fact after their goal the only time I thought we could win it was when wee Joe Allen was stepping up!

Doubt many on here can remember the Bournemouth game so this performance will be forgotten soon.

12th League Cup final here we go.
