Crap, just found out about this injury. Hopefully is nothing too serious as we're going to need him fit, I was thinking him and Fab at CB ultil Joe can find his form again.

I thought Joe Gomez played much better on Saturday.

Yes, he played better than against Villa but still don't think his level is good enough to be staring games for us yet.

Still, will probably be staring tomorrow and next weekend so hopefully continues to improve

I think we need to fast track Nat Philips into the first team to give us another option, we can't rely on Matip.

I prefer Philips than Van der berg.

      2) Glass onion ( The Beatles)
      3) Heart of glass ( Blondie)
      4) Glass eyes ( Radiohead)
      5) Delicate ( Taylor swift)

Anyone know what his latest injury is? The club have been quite tight-lipped on this one

Thats the thing. There was no stand out incident where you say oh tgats where hes got the knock or oh theres where you see him pull up.

After the game he "felt something" Dont most of us feel something after a game? Running and knocking off people arent you meant to feel something?

He to me is a softy..any little niggle or pain and hes gone for a monrh...Take your Smiths, Mcmahons, Byrnes if the past. Nothing fuckung stopped them playing bar serious injury.

Matip is a fine player but to me hes mentally weak.....Id be saying farewell in the summer

I agree, he's more injured than available and that's no good.

Mate not sure I'm agree with you but one thing, he's often than not unavailable, that's fact. No matter how good he is but the idea we have to rely on a very injury prone player is feel not right for me.

We need to buy 2 more CB's in January, its as simple as that, one has to be top quality and the other can be more of a work in progress but still able to slot in straight away. In the summer Matip has to be shipped out

Great performance considering it was his first game back after a lengthy lay off.

If only he could stay fit.

Yes I thought he was very good yesterday, I thought both were truth be told but as you say for that to be his first game back he was very very good

Not a criticism necessarily but one thing I wasnt sure of, and I wonder if it was an instruction, but he was getting pulled into midfield alot tracking.. it left a hole behind alot and I was fairly uncomfortable every time that if we lost it a runner had a massive gap to run into

I really think he is our 2nd best centre back. Opinions?

His contribution in guiding us to number 6 in Madrid is massively underrated.

It's hard to believe that he and Milner didn't cost a penny. We are blessed to have him!

He is quality and on par with Gomez for me. Has more composure, where Joe has the better pace. Both great options to have when fit

Yes, I think Joel is our 2nd best CB. He’s very good in all aspects and surprisingly strong given his string bean looks. He doesn’t have Gomez’s pace but I think his passing is better as is his ability to dribble out the back through the opposing midfield breaking up the press and creating space. He’s also strong in the air defensively but my lord, he couldn’t hit water if he fell off a boat when heading the ball in the opposing box.
It is a crying shame he’s as fragile as he is because he’s of very high quality.

Definitely I'd say. Joe was coming to a bit of a crossroads early on in this season where he was being bullied by and stocky number 9 that came across him. When he played against West Ham after half an hour they decided to play off him rather than a 23 year old debutant.

I hope he comes back a lot stronger from this injury.

Joel is such a reassuring presence I think him and Fabinho at the back is good enough for this season but of course injuries will mean that we cant rely solely on those 2.

He was probably physically able to go out and play but when you know he’s made of soft glass and just came off 2 games in 3 days, it would be suicidal playing him a 3rd game in 6 days, knowing when he goes down injured it’s for weeks at a time.
