It is astonishing just what an incredible eye for a deal Klopp has by selling Skrtel for £5m and getting Matip for free. That's like successfully selling a sh*t stained mattress for a good bit of dosh and getting a four poster bed from Buckingham Palace for free.

What a signing he's proving to be, he's been absolutely brilliant since signing.

Glad to see him get his first of many goals too.

And our only 2 losses also came when he's not playing. Seriously he's the sole reason for the marked improvement in our defense this season.

Might be just as important to us as Couts is.

Without a doubt our most important defender.

It's not just his defending it's his link up play and his passing. He's calm, he's assured, he's f**king massive!

Need him back asap and thank whatever god you want that he's turned down the AFCON.

Would have thought that with the games ahead of us one of the journalists would have had the foresight to ask about the condition of Matip post match, likewise with Mane who limped off with what looked like a groin injury. Piss poor press once again.

Exactly mate, I still don't even know what Sturridge's injury is.  :-[

      Bit of a worry this.

If the entirety of our defense is so heavily reliant on one player, then you know there's an issue.

But when we gradually improve the defence (Clyne, Matip and another two) then we'll have a solid, top-class defence!

      He's a commanding CB

the sooner he is back the better, but I think he needs a proper sweeper defender (like Carra) to play alongside him.

Is it a serious injury or will he back for the West Ham game?

Some games are better off missed, Sundays was one. Missing poor performances elevates the absentee to saviour status on the forum, Matip is the beneficiary this time. Much depends on how well the player is liked however. I thought we really missed Sturridge or Coutinho the most (either would have a huge difference as it would have meant Origi not starting) but this time it's Joel who gets the "FFS when are you back!!!" treatment.

All that said he is a good player, no doubt about it.

Scroll up and you'll see proof of why he is so important to us. Look at the difference in our results when he does and doesn't play.

I wouldn't say we missed Coutinho or Sturridge at the weekend, we still scored 3 goals.

Neither of them would have stopped the 4 goals going in.
