He is not as bad as everyone makes out, especially as Lovren makes mistakes just as much as Klavan.

End of the day though when you're buying the most expensive Estonian at £4 million, you kind of guess you're not getting a world beater at his age.

Klopp went with him because he knows him from the German league imo.

      Spot on HR.

In my view he saw it as a "steady as you go" reserve CB.

The inconsistency of big Dejan after a pretty good second season, the rightfully enforced absence of Mama and Gomez injuries just mean he's seen way more action than anticipated......

On Matip - I think he's quality but he needs a steady, physically dominant partner to attack the first ball and let him tidy up.

Lovren and Migs are rightfully going to cop all the flak.

But boy this lad certainly has not lived up to what we were hoping for , just less sh*te than Lovren.

This is the worst CB and goalie unit I have experienced in watching LFC for 40 years.

A good keeper and a settled back four was a Liverpool trademark in years gone by ......no longer I'm afraid.

The guy who got me into the club said the same thing. I hate it for me and my kids who are growing up loving this club, but I hate it for guys like u and him more. I have only supported this team for about 5 years. sh*te and leaky defense is all I've known. But it must be hard a hard pill to swallow for u all. Something has to give. What do you think it will be? What's rock bottom?

A relegation fight, about the only thing I haven't experienced following Liverpool.

Suppose I could say Hodgson managing us, as that felt pretty rock-bottom at the time.

Imagine if he did not decide not to go to his nation. He would never play with us :(

We need to invest heavily in defense not only because of our form but also that Lovren & Matip are getting injured a lot.

As ropey a game as he's had for us today.
      Looked slow and lacking sharpness.
In fairness, has been out for a while, so can only improve.
Can't afford to keep giving away cheap goals.

      F***ing awful defender.

Contributes more in the oppositions half than our own says a lot for a cb.

Just seen a replay of that 3rd goal. Piss poor defending from him trying to flick the ball away off the line when he could have smashed it away with his left peg. Even if he did make contact with that flick away, he was flicking it straight to a WBA player.

I want to see VVD and Klavan as our 2 CB's.

I'm actually not even sure about VVD but I'll give him a chance because he cost us £75 million pounds!!!

Having surgery on a thigh injury.

just seeing this now. I wonder how long he has been carrying this injury. I think most agree he was much better for us, or at least better, last season.

Matip injury puts him out for the season

Matip, right, played the full 90 minutes against Palace
      DYLAN MARTINEZ/REUTERS

Joël Matip, the Liverpool defender, is set to miss the rest of the season with a ruptured thigh muscle.

Matip suffered the injury in Saturday’s victory over Crystal Palace, but played for the full 90 minutes. Scans have revealed the full extent of the injury and the centre back is now in Germany where it will be decided if he needs an operation.

It is significant blow for Jürgen Klopp, the manager, ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League quarter-final with Manchester City. Joe Gomez is also out with ankle ligament damage and Adam Lallana is another who may not play again this campaign.

Lallana pulled his hamstring within minutes of appearing as a substitute in the 2-1 win at Selhurst Park and his hopes of going to the World Cup with England are now in the balance.

Matip and Lallana both attended The Spire hospital on Sunday where the gloomy diagnosis was made. It is likely that Dejan Lovren would have come into the side in place of Matip for the European clash with City.

However, Klopp will be concerned that his squad is beginning to look stretched by injury with Emre Can having failed to train prior to today’s session with a back complaint.

Always have been impressed with Klavan, more so than Matip and Lovren tbh. Surprised he has hardly had a kick this season.

Ragnar was superb over that tricky Christmas period for us, one of our best players. Since he scored the winner in the New Year's Day fixture over Burnley I can barely remember him taking to the field. And that, as you say, is a surprise given that he arguably performed at a higher level than both Lovren and Matip. He's been unlucky in that sense.

Not listed as one of the players reporting for day 1 of pre season training.
Anyone know how much longer he's out for?
