No doubt about it now.

Matip has definitely bulked up.

I wonder if this was a deliberate thing by the medical team to help him with his muscle injury problems.
If it is, hopefully it's effective.
A fully fit Matip is a huge asset to the team.

He is indeed, reminds me of Alan Hansen at his best, love it when he brings the ball out of defence and surges forward into the opposition box.

If Joel and VVD play 28 games together, we win the league. Joel is criminally underrated, and injuries are the only thing that hold him back from being a class player.

I just feel after the sh*t storm last year, we will get much needed some luck and see injury prone guys like Joel, Kieta, and Thiago show how damn good they really are. Lot of talent here

He’s always been a fantastic defender but couldn’t stay healthy the last couple of years. We got him on a free so goes highly underrated by those who judge quality by the size of the transfer fee.

He's sensational. He doesn't purely rely on physical aspects like brute force or speed. Just a phenomenal mind and great anticipation. Something quite deceptive about hin. Easy to forget that he was a freebie as well and was pretty much the first piece of the defensive jigsaw that Jürgen started to build after the defensive/goalkeeping disaster he inherited.

The only issue is, being realistic, the most games we can expect from him this season is 15/20?

First 3 years he played 30 plus games in all competitions and the last 2 years he played under 15 games. Personally think be good if we could get 25 games out of him but form he is in hard for Klopp not to pick him on a weekly basis with the form he is in.

Agree, I love how he carries the ball into the opposition half.. secret weapon at times for us..

looking good along side his mate Virgil. We now have cover in abundance thankfully and we can give these giants a rest from time to time.

Definitely one of my favourite displays tonight. Had a bit of a nightmare in the first half but was faultless in the second half. Takes some strength of character and mind to regroup and put in a display as good as that in the second half after the experiences of the first. Brilliant Joel!
