This is true, that is why hoping Matip can be fit in a couple week times. Gomez could one game a week and mix Nat couple mid-week games (Newcastle, UCL matchday 1) but this isn't long term solution.

Yup, makes the decision to keep Nat around an even more sound one now.

Get all these injuries out of the way early doors, then have a fully fit squad ready to rock and roll, while all the other Teams injuries start to mount up at the wrong time, for them!

Would still rather have no players injured

Was our best player at Fulham (by a country mile) so this is rotten for him and us. Hope to see him back and starting in the XI soon. Wonderful player.

Anyone seen his celebration in front of the Newcastle bench last night?

Crucial goal tonight.  Draw would've been underwhelming.  Played well too.  Well done Joel.

Hopefully it isn't the beginning of injury stricken run for him. He did great last season being available fit majority of the season (I'm addition to playing well on top of that).

Good opportunity for Konate to make a claim for starting role.

Konate and Virg for me now.

Thought Matip looked a little shaky only in the last few games.

Konate is a Beast, love him with Virg. Virg seems to have a bit more confidence around him as well.

Another player I’d get rid of in the summer. Years of inconsistencies and injuries and he’s been a disaster this season. Not as bad as Gomez but not far off. Only has 1 more year left on his contract too, let’s not lose yet another player on a free.

you only see him at his best alongside Virgil I think alongside Joe makes him nervous

I think years of inconsistencies is very harsh.

He's got to go though. If we arnt giving wijnaldum who consistently performed and played 60 games a season a new deal matip isn't getting one. Philips stays ... gomez and matip out. Get the money in. New CB in.

Don't disagree but I think saying years of inconsistencies is a bit harsh.

I don’t think so, he’s never cemented himself as first choice/first choice to play alongside Virgil once he arrived. He’s always been a mixture of 2nd to 4th choice through either mixed performances or injuries. Like Ox, Keita, Gomez and several others, he’s never been a player we know we can rely on consistently. Last season was his best season for us in terms of performances and availability, other than that we were lucky if we got 30 appearances out of him.

Injury wise I'd agree but when injury free I think he's been very consistent in terms of form.

Another who has seen a sharp decline in form. Let's not revise history though. He was genuinely one of the best in his position in the league when fit.

No, on occasions maybe but you only have to look back through this thread and you’ll see a lot of the time people are saying he’s good enough for 3rd/4th choice and was a toss up between him and Lovren. I literally just flicked to a few random pages and 2019 it was people saying he’s behind Gomez, 2017 he was behind Klavan etc.
He’s had times where he’s been in good form and been rightly praised for it and that includes by me just as much as anyone else but he’s never looked good enough to really cement himself as a first choice for us on a consistent basis.
Maybe he could’ve gone on to establish himself as that a couple of years ago but he could never stay injury free long enough. Last season was the best he’s been with injuries and we were far from solid at the back - but to be fair that extends to the entire back line.

Unfortunately like Gomez and like what IMO appears to be happening to Virgil, he’s suffered one big injury too many.

IMO, the timing is right for him to go in the summer.
