Typical, United beat City after we lose....

We'd have been 4 points behind with a game in hand, almost touching distance, now it is backing to being a mountain to climb. What a kick in the nuts.

      Agreed Luke.

Earliest CL as I see it is going to be September 2017 unless we get lucky with the Europa.
Think today is the day we lost it. Would love to be proved wrong.

To have gone a better PL final position than the Mancs was another landmark to have aimed for.

Too many turds in the team to get rid of.

Summer transfer window should be encouraging

Its not over yet guys, with the exception of the 2nd half today we've been very very good lately. If the teams above us continue to F**k up, and both Manchester clubs will drop points for sure, then we still have a chance but we would have been so much closer had we won today but it just wasn't to be.

I used to obsess about it but you know what, I don't think we need it next season. I think we're probably a season away from having the necessary depth in the squad to be able to put up a strong showing in both the league and in Europe. Coutinho is the only player who may decide it's time for a move if we don't make it and I really think it's all about the league next season having a really strong start to the campaign. I'll be happy enough with a Europa League spot and giving some of the kids a run in the group stages. It's still possible and it would be fantastic to get in but I've never really gotten my hopes up too highly and we've never looked consistent enough to pull it off from so far back. I could seeing us beating Spurs in our next game and then just as likely losing to a West Brom or a Norwich the following weekend.

I agree mate, said something similar a page or two back. The money would be great, but the demands of CL  and prem league might be a little too much for our squad next season.

We are miles away from being a competitive side within the Champions League.

The last time in that competition was an embarrassment lets be 100% honest.

We have fallen so far from the days of 2005-2009 in terms of being a feared team with world class match winners.

I know this smells of pessimism, and believe me it isn’t written as a reaction of the back of a sloppy defeat, it’s just how I feel.

In our team we have 1 genuine world class player in Coutinho, and we will struggle to keep him in the summer even if we win the Europa.

Yes Firmino has the potential, but he, Allen, Can and Lallana are not the world class finished article no matter how much we like them.

It’s like DeGea and United, he must be thinking “How the hell am I playing for these and not Madrid!”

Everybody is quick to jump at Arsenal and label Wenger and his board as bottlers, “Always 2 players away from the league”

      We are just as bad.

We buy raw talent, make it unplayable, then sell up just as we fall short.

I don’t care about playing in the Champions League currently, I want us to win the Europa because it’s a trophy.

Best chance is EL, but Dortmund seems just too strong. So'll probably miss CL in 2016/2017. And maybe that's not that bad for we'll be somehow under the radar and it means Klopp can work better. We need to get patient. How long did it take Alex Fu**erguson to make ManU the real deal after he took over in 1986? Should teach us something about being too greedy and impatient.

I don't think Coutinho is world class yet he still needs to improve his finishing.

I think Firmino will be world class after two more seasons under Klopp.

Can may become a world class player if he keeps improving at this rate.

Allen and Lallana will never come close.

A fully fit and in form Sturridge is our only world class player.

EPL me thinks. Surely we can put a run of 8 games:

Spuds (home) Draw. although we usually do well against them
      Stoke (home) Win
      Bournemouth (away) Win
Everton (home) Win, they are on a dip right now
      Newcastle (home) Win
      Swansea (away) Win
      Watford (home) Win
      Chelski (home) Draw
      West Brom (away) Win

      = 23 points

      4th is still possible

Six wins on the bounce? I honestly have no idea when that last happened.

Any of you folks with a memory know?

Feb - April 2014 Ian, 11 game winning run.

We've had an unbeaten run of 12 games and another of 8 games this season but they were mostly draws.

To me they all look like games we should win, no doubt we will find a way to shoot ourselves in the foot in about half of them though.

Is 4th place possible?.... Yes   Is 4th place likely....NO
But we need to keep going and win every game we can and hope those above us slip up, here's how it stand

      3      Arsenal   30   18   55
      4      Man City   30   20   51
      5      West Ham   30   12   50
      6      Man Utd   30   11   50
      7      Southamp   31   9   47
      8      Stoke   31   -3   46
      9      Liverpool   29   5   44

Think Spur are too far a head to catch. Banana skin games for those above us are
      Sunday 3rd April 2016
      Leicester v Southampton
      Saturday 9th April 2016
      West Ham v Arsenal
      Sunday 10th April 2016
      Tottenham v Man Utd
      Saturday 16th April 2016
      Chelsea v Man City
      Sunday 17th April 2016
      Leicester v West Ham
      Monday 18th April 2016
      Stoke v Tottenham
      Sunday 24th April 2016
      Man City v Stoke
      Sunday 1st May 2016
      Man Utd v Leicester
      Southampton v Man City

      Saturday 7th May 2016
      Man City v Arsenal
      Tottenham v Southampton
      Tuesday 10th May 2016
      West Ham v Man Utd
      Sunday 15th May 2016
      Stoke v West Ham
      Chelsea v Leicester

With the right combination of results in the matches listed above wins, losses and draws and a few wins for us we could be right back in it.....I would not bet on us getting 4th, but then again i did not bet on Leicester winning the Premier League

In reality,It is a huge ask, but if the results in these matches goes our way and we beat Spur and win most of our games, that plus a few slip ups along the way by those above us 4th place is possible

Another 3 points thrown away, poor substitutions, bad defending, call it what you like. Another season of under achievement sadly back to square one, the present side simply not good enough.

My season would be made up if we beat the Scum in the Europa and finish above them in the league.

Either way ... it could mean we reach our objective.

It will be tight but we could get 4th.

Even if we got CL  we would need serious summer  squad additions to have any chance to go anywhere in it .

At least I couldn't see JĂźrgen fielding the ressies against Real Madrid .

      Posted a month ago.

Well we did beat the Scum in the Europa and we all dined out on that one .

A month on chances for the CL are fading ..... the Europa being the main chance now.  If we get past Dortmund then its a goer.

I would rather go into a CL campaign with a strong team that was Klopp's own , following a transfer window or two than enter it to make up the numbers and be knocked out early.

Once we got bet by Southampton, thought the chance was gone, and even if we had one that would've been only a slim chance.

So really would be great to all the way in Europa ... trophy, and top4 spot ... be nice

Think we've got a slim chance of either to be fair. But will believe until it's proved impossible.
