Igor Biscan

Hello there.

I'm writing an article about Igor Biscan (it's a kind of Where Are They Now? thing) and I want to get fans' memories about him as a player. Any memories/stories you have - good or bad - please post them here. Doesn't even have to be a story/memory as such, could just be your general view on his time at Anfield.

Remember his debut against Ipswich when he came on as a sub in a 1-0 home defeat, he looked excellent, loads of good touches and looked really promising.the reality was a lot different, some good moments such as goals v palace and Fulham and the egoooor chant as well.

I'll be eternally fond of every single player who played a part in winning us Number 5, however limited they or their contributions were. And Igor played in some massive, massive games and was part of our strong defensive unit on the road to Istambul.

If I'm not mistaken, he started all UCL knockout games with the exception of the final.

He wasn't a flashy player so I don't have many specific memories of him in those games but from the top of my head I would say his main contribution was in the Round of 16 against Bayer Leverkusen.

We played the first leg at Anfield and if I'm not mistaken Biscan played in central midfield that night. We won by 3-1 and he gave an assist to Luis Garcia. The other two goals came from free kicks from Riise and Hamann.

I haven't checked that information so my mind could be playing tricks here but I seem to vividly remember that goal and assist!

Was effectively sh*te but had the odd decent game here and there, most notably against Deportivo when he did that mazy run and scored from about three deflections (or something like that).

Got sent off in the Gary Mac Derby.

And had that awful season when Houllier tried to play him as a centre-back and him and Carra got a roasting off Thierry Henry at Highbury.

The Juve game.

I was scared to read this thread in case it was a story that he was going to come back and play for us. A brutal player in all but about two of his appearances. I went to see us play at Fulham once when we were 2-0 down at half time then brought Alonso on as sub (why he was sub in the first place I've no idea). We won 4-2 and from memory Biscan scored a snorter.

That was the first thing I thought of, the away leg when Xabi was suspended. He was superb that night.
