Me I'd rather sign Reus and Gotze than "hope/expect" Grujic and Zielinski to turn into the new Reus and Gotze but each to their own.

Yeah but this the policy that has resulted in us finishing regulary around 7th and 8th in the time of FSG.

The season we did finish 2nd and had champions league football, we still persued potential and supposed hidden gems over proven talent.

It is a policy that has proven to have failed us really.

New Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius is unlikely to go to the Olympics this summer.

Liverpool are increasingly hopeful new signing Loris Karius will be available for the start of the new Premier League season.

The German goalkeeper, who joined the Reds in a £4.7million deal from Mainz this summer, had been expected to represent his country at the Rio Olympics.

That tournament takes place from August 3 to August 20 and Karius’s inclusion would have meant he missed a sizeable chunk of Liverpool’s pre-season as well as the opening league matches against Arsenal and Burnley.

Germany have yet to finalise their squad for what is an under-23s event with each nation allowed to include three over-age players.

However, the Reds no longer expect Karius to be called up for the trip to Brazil.

Germany aren’t short of goalkeeping options with FC Koln’s Timo Horn, Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno and Freiburg’s Alexander Schwolow also under consideration.

Karius was signed by manager Jürgen Klopp to compete with Simon Mignolet for the keeper’s jersey.

Pre-season will be a crucial time for the former Manchester City youngster as he looks to settle in quickly and prove he deserves a starting spot. Heading to the Olympics would have left him playing catch-up on his return.

Karius’ availability will be welcome boost for Klopp, who already has a host of players returning late for pre-season following international commitments.

If all we did was buy kids on the cheap or only offer cheap incentivized contracts because FSG are skint to put money into the club I would totally agree with you.

But then how do we explain:

Carroll...record signing massively overpaid
Benteke.. 2nd highest signing...massively overpaid
Firmino...3rd biggest signing....Jury still out.
Lovren/Lallana....probably top 10 in money spent for signings...Jury still out.

Now as far as transfers go it's not been a great record..for every Coutinho we have a Benteke...for Suarez we have a Carroll...etc..etc.

I do not think Benteke or Sturridge are on pay-as-you-play contracts and while some of the kids might be, which to me is not an issue.

We are 4th/5th highest net spend in the league and 4-5th wages so I don't know if anyone is particularly sucking FSG's cock but arguments  for/against could be made as to the transfer process as it truly has been hit/miss.

Great news.  Was a bit concerned he'd go to the Olympics, we'd start the season with Mignolet in goal and there would be some awkward period when Karius comes back.

Now he can start in goal for the season and hopefully Simon will piss off somewhere else before the transfer deadline.

I think migs will be on the bench and leave next year tbh; as bad as he has been with Ward being loaned out for the season and Bogdan still around I don't think we can let him go.

Liverpool summer signing Loris Karius ruled out for two months with hand injury

Jürgen Klopp's preparations for the new season have suffered a setback after Loris Karius was ruled out for two months.

Karius, the £4.7million summer signing, has broken a bone in his hand and left Liverpool's training base in Palo Alto to fly home to England.

The German goalkeeper picked up the injury after colliding with Dejan Lovren during the International Champions Cup game against Chelsea on Wednesday and will require an operation.

Karius is expected to be out of action for eight to ten weeks, ensuring that Simon Mignolet is now poised to start the Premier League opener against Arsenal on August 14.
