Copa America Centenario (weirdly being held in in the U.S.) starts tonight! Thought we should get a thread going.

LATE if you're in the UK. It looks like most games are between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET, which means what? 10 p.m. UK time for the early match

Apparently video technology is being used is this tournament and refs can give penalties as punishment for abusive language

Have to say that I am hugely in favor of Fifa starting to allow refs to punish players for acting like dickheads and ranting at referees.
Also hope that next season they are far more stringent with grabbing shirts in the penalty box.

Thanks TheRedMosquito for starting the thread.

I will be watching as many games as I can. The US has a game in Chicago on Tuesday. Trying to figure out how I can afford to go. Would love to see the US national team play.

      Go USA!

Other than being so poor on that corner, the US is playing better than I expected.

The USA always do well in big competitions. Got to the point now where I almost expect it
They just need to be braver in their selection and formations.
Eventually jermaine jones, Dempsey and bradley are going to be gone so there needs to be some flexibility going forward

      Really?
He was turned away and his arm was pulling back towards his body
Don't know what else he could have done
If that was called for us I would admit that we were very very fortunate
If it was called against us I would be pissed off

I watch zardes regularly for the la galaxy as I have season tickets and he is the most infuriating player
I honestly feel that his hair style makes him appear to be a better player than he is!
Awful touch and awareness and shooting is all over the place. Not even that fast.

I'm an American but it's a PK everytime. His hand is away from his body. It wasn't deliberate but it prevented a cross from coming in because his hand made him larger.

He was one of our best that half. Bradley was woeful, Jones is too slow, and Bedoya was non-existent.

Appreciate your opinion Hobbs but can we do away with calling a penalty a damn PK?!?!
Joking.....ish....I can't stand when commentators say that
I know why though....it's because in other American sports you fellas use penalty in a different way

The issue with zardes is that he isn't really a striker.. Isn't a winger and and can't be depended upon to play a wider attacking role and be consistent
He can be dangerous but more often it's because defenders switch off.
His main skill appears to be when he can receive the ball at pace with a defender next to him and he can knock it past.
Once he has got away with that once he just gets taken out of the game.

Well that turned out a bit sh*t, didn't it? Pretty much everyone is acknowledging someone like Bradley played poorly (as he frequently does...) yet all say "there's no one to replace him." And that's like fundamentally the problem with American soccer. He doesn't even play that well for Toronto, but so shallow is the U.S. talent pool that the American media big him up and make excuses for why he played poorly. And he's the captain FFS. It's a joke, really. Not a single American would get into that Colombian starting XI. Klinsmann might not be a good manager, but until the system can produce better players, every U.S. manager will continue to fail.
