Charlie Adams' would have gone further than Messi's if he wasn't so out of shape.

Messi taking the easy way out then. Supposedly the greatest player of all time but retires at 29 with a World Cup in 2 years.

I don't know if Messi is competing because I haven't checked. He's still the greatest player to this date who has ever played. WCup means nothing ( here and now in the 2020's ) Notice how I don't say that Messi is the best of all time. I don't do that so I don't appear insane.

If you think the WC "means nothing", you are insane. It's only the ultimate tournament in the sport after all. It was the case 5 years ago, it was the case 50 years ago, it was the case in 1930. There are many more lucrative competitions and tournaments, but nothing to compare with the prestige of the WC. If you haven't won it, then you can't call yourself the greatest that's ever played.

Messi is at the CA, Allison has only played 2 of Brazil's games. I try to watch it, but the silent Sunday league atmosphere and minimalist coverage of it, makes it difficult to keep up with everything that is going on.

Agreed. The World Cup is and always will be the pinnacle of sport. I do feel that is what gives Pele and Maradona the edge over Messi and Ronaldo.

No way anybody sane of mind can watch a full 90 mins of a Copa America game.

Grown men throwing themselves to the ground when a opposition player runs past them. 😩
