Amongst all the ridicule for Hodgson and Sterling I've got to say I actually thought Rooney did very well tonight.

Woy has a serious boner for Kane.

      He'll never be dropped.

He'll change the team around to accommodate for Kane rather than play a more in-tuned team.

The only opening match I remember England ever winning was against Paraguay at the World Cup in 2006 with a truly drab 1-0 victory. Too young to care or remember them winning their opening game at France 98 (thus also not remembering Scotland's last appearance at a major international tournament!).

Sorry - that should have read 10 years ago at the World Cup in Germany!

La Provence now reporting a young woman attempted to take her own life at the Baille metro - nothing to do with England or Russia fans.

Harry Kane took six corners in the game, only one fewer than he managed in his 38 Premier League games in 2015-16.

      It was like watching Liverpool!

Dominate a game, in total control against what looked like a sh*t Russian team, and throw away the points.   :D

Well, on the balance of play England deserved the win, but there cannot be a worse side in this tournament than Russia, surely?

It was so Liverpool, all the energy and gusto in the first half, just evaporated and the game started to get a bit more even in terms of TA. Dyer, MoTM for England, who the commentator said plyed his trade in a Portugal acadamey - Sporting Lisbon or someone. I haven't seen much of him but he looked very good in that holding role and took a lovely free-kick. Which by that time looked like the only way we were going to score.

Kane, he should have got hooked around the 60th, as the fella was just too static and offered nothing. Sturridge's pace and skill would have been the answer as Russia tried in vein to push on.

The other player who impressed me was Danny Rose, I really like him and I wonder if Liverpool could tempt him with a move back north. Probably not but he would be a perfect fit, nice tidy defender him.

Oh well, typical England...  with 'Hodgsoraus' at the helm this young England squad (who certainly have the potential), I fear will be led up the garden path.

Well, hows that for masterful management, all I kept thinking watching England play was why in the hell is Harry Kane, the striker, a very tall striker - taking the corners. I may not be management material but surely then he can't be in place to actually score? LMAO

Felt very sorry for England yesterday! They did deserve a good start in this tournament!
The added pressure won't make it easy for them now!

Oh and Kane was useless last night! Awful performance by the main striker!

The only forward I know with worse end product than Adam Lallana is rude boy Raheem.

Throw them in together with a lacklustre Harry Kane and England will really struggle for goals.

Vardy has to start next game in, or if not one of Sturridge or Rashford.

For once Roy F***ing go for it properly.

Kane didn't fit the players around him IMHO. He looked like a static lump.

Sterling was poor, similar to Lallana he started off brightly but then faded into a mess.

Even worse when you do a little digging around and find out that just over one fifth (21%) of his goals have been headers haha.

Why the F**k are we letting our main striker on the night be anywhere but the box when the ball comes in?

Bit grim but I think we might exit this group and not through qualification

Just can't see that.  But if Wales do somehow manage to get what would be a surprise win over England then Wales may have some incentive to 'not' beat Russia in that last game...

Kane and Sterling were awful. It has to be    Vardy Sturridge Lallana against wales.

If Roy had any balls he'd play this team:

      Hart

      Clyne
      Smalling
      Cahill
      Rose

      Henderson
      Dier
      Milner

      Vardy
      Kane
      Sturridge

But he'll never do that in a million years. Would be nice to see what that team could do.

Not a chance should Henderson start over Alli.

I think for that team you'd need 3 solid hardworking, more defensive minded players. Alli would not work with the 3 up top.

No width tho, its a waste of 3 strikers. I think the team played well, they just missed a lot of chances and there was def a lack of pace up front.

I'd go with the same line up against Russia, but Swap Kane with Sturridge, Vardy or Rashford. It'd make a world of difference. IMO

I cant believe they let them score. You could see it coming to.  The last 5 minutes they were in shambles.

Not cursed.  Hodgson tried to hold on to the 1-0 in contrast to Germany who go on to score in injury time.

Say what you want but Rooney was good for England in midfield. Passing was excellent and he kept his cool with the ball. He should start again.

There wasn't much wrong with the side Roy picked. I just think Sterling should've come off and when Russia pushed up, Vardy for Kane.
