He seems to be defo bought as not a cover, but to be 1st team.

And basing on pre-season, he has impressed. A proper defender. Reminds me of when Skrtle had his Worldy days.

He's been alright has our Klavan, certainly making a name for him starting this week and I think he will.

Big game for the lad on Sunday. Not much of a honeymoon period. Has looked decent so far, but this is different test. Him and Lovren will be under pressure, so will need them to keep their Barca form going.

Put him as my starting CB in fantasy League. Hope he gets 38 clean sheets to his name.

The Klav had a solid debut.

Just imagine if Skrtel had been playing in this fixture instead of Klav.

Doesn't bear thinking about - but shows how a change in defence can reap rewards. He was cool and collected today. Excellent performance, and we still haven't seen Matip properly to judge.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this central defence now.

I thought he did alright as well bud but I also find it hard to praise any member of a back four when we've conceded 3 goals. He wasn't at direct fault for any of the goals but they have to take credit and fault as a unit and clearly there is some work to do there.

I thought he got sucked in too much for the 1st goal, but other than that, he was great today. I think Sakho will have a hard time reclaiming his position.

If Matip doesn't turn out to be the big dominant centre half we need I think we're in trouble at the back, we're in desperate need of a Sami type of player to partner Lovren. Sakho looks good in spells but for every 6-7 good games he will have a spell of 3-4 where he is poor (plus he is quite injury prone). Klavam looks a solid Henchoz type of defender but we need a dominant player back there, particularly in the air. Lovren nd Klavan are both 6 2' but we need a taller player. We could do with Grucic breaking into the first team as well this season. Height will go some way to fixing our set pieces woes.

Looking an absolute steal for what we paid. If Matip can come in and play as solid as Klavan I'll feel a lot more comfortable about our defence

Like to see him paired with Matip. The player signed to essentially be our 4th choice is currently looking like our 1st choice.

I think Dejan is a lock on the number one spot mate, I think he has all the attributes Jürgen looks for in a centre half but he needs a player alongside him who can dominate in the air, hopefully that player turns out to be Matip.

I agree, Klavan to me is easily our best CB. Pair him with Matip and watch us immediately get better.

Think you'll be surprised mate, if Matip adjusts to the league Jurgens ideal pairing will be him and Sakho.

I like Klavan he's settled well and is a solid option.

Funnily enough Lovren is our best defender in the air but his weaknesses were pretty apparent today like being too rash, passing the ball out from the back and easily beaten in a 1 v 1 situation.

Deserves the praise right now, already our number 1 centre back.

I quite like his style of defending - not unlike Skrtel's, if we are going to be honest. Ragnar had a good individual game yesterday, the better of the two by a mile and he's a fine option to have but we did ship three so...  :-\

Thought he looked composed, which is what i like to see from a CB. The way he marshalled Walcott and Iwobi off the ball at times was very good to see...no rash lunges or unnecessary pushes and holding. It was a solid performance and very encouraging.
