He plays after their striker so he gets in nice positions. Hope he will do the same for us.

I feel like a 4-2-3-1 gives us the chance to, yes, play the Fab-4 but if everybody (apart from VVD and Gomez obviously) is healthy it gives us way more flexibility. People seem to forget Gini is a very good CAM.

Shaq can fit it in there. Salah always impresses me with his vision and range of passes when he is momentarily dropped further back and tasked with something of number 10 role.

Assuming Fabinho is going straight back to CB once he's back, I'd love to see us play a 4-2-3-1 with Gini as the 10 and a double pivot of Hendo and Thiago. I feel this, at least on paper, has the potential of being a very well balanced and offensively potent formation.

Bloody hell, is that all he's on, no wonder he was unwilling to sign an extension, come on board, he's easily worth £110k per week to us.

He is worth it in another club, but if you look at the salaries here, they are well below the market. That's because the transfers are intelligently done and we don't sign stars, we make them. Just look at what other CMs from the top 6 get. Although it'smore difficult, I like that the club does not spend like crazy on salaries for players who then cannot be dropped. So many examples to quote.

Gini is so important for us. When Kieta got hurt  last night my kids were all bothered by it. Its like I told them, anything we get from Naby is cake, but expect that dude to be hurt. If Gini gets hurt then you worry. Dudes an iron horse who needs to be valued more. He will get resigned and be the new Milner ( old reliable)

Gini is not good enough. Hendo is better, Keita is better, Thiago is better, even Jones, well and if Ox comes back we'll see. Gini is reliable, doesn't do brainfarts, but has no vertical mind, more of a ball holder. They will let him go and he wants to go because he knows he only plays now because of our injuries. Once we are healthy again he'll warm the bench.

Brilliant goal by Gini tonight, everything should be done, to persuade him to stay at the club. Certainly worth an extended contract.

This is mad. Gini has been our best player this season aside Robbo, and the mainstay of a midfield for that won the CL and PL. He has a very specific role to play, he has much more attacking ability than he is allowed to show, but has the discipline and intelligence to work for the greater good. He's been absolutely vital to our consistency.

      Complete and utter f**king nonsense.

Have you not been watching our club the last 4 years? Even since joining, Wijnaldum has consistently played the vast majority of games, including some absolute worldclass performances in the big games, more often than not against the likes of City and Chelsea.

His goals in the 2016/2017 season were huge in getting us into the top 4 again and his performance against Barcelona was one for the history books.

This season he is one of the few players who has been consistently playing at a high level, while constantly being surrounded by different players due to injuries. Hell, I’d go as far as saying he is in the top 3 of our players of the season so far.

When he, and it will be down to him because I’m sure Klopp does not want to let him go, decides to leave, he will leave a gaping hole in our squad. Not only in terms of ability as a player, but also his character in the dressing room. Along with Henderson, Van Dijk and Milner, he was voted one of the captains by his fellow teammates.

You should watch him for the Netherlands where he plays his natural position. No vertical mind? Give your head a wobble. If it’s not clear by now that the only reason he plays the way he does for us is down to instructions from Klopp, you are clueless.

What kind of nonsense is this?

He's arguably our best player this season for crying out loud and hardly ever gets injured.

Gini played 3648 minutes last season across all competitions, which is around 500 more than the next midfielder (Hendo). He started 41 games. He's been an integral part of our midfield under Klopp since he's signed.

I get the feeling he has an opportunity to play at Barca, with Koeman coveting him, and he feels now is a good time to move with a few years at his peak left, having achieved what he has here.

Can't be sure what's going on behind the scenes but we'll see what happens.

      What a load of sh*te.

You couldn't get the ball off Gini in a phone box.

Fantastic player and would be greatly missed should he move on.

I disagree with him but there is no need to tell him something like that. We can disagree (strongly too) and still have a conversation about it. This is what we all come on this board for.

      1. Gini only gets his minutes because others are injured. He lacked playing time when everyone was available, he wasn't starting back then.

      2. Keita and Thiago are just better footballers than him, period. Jones we could discuss, but Jones plays more vertical while Gini almost never drives the ball forward but plays almost always lateral football. Jones is also younger. And then you have Ox. And Milner is always there as a back-up.

      3. I mean the whole delay of his contract renewal proves Jürgen's praise to be just lip service. They obviously don't see him as an integral part of this team, otherwise they would have made a deal already. LFC and Jürgen see Gini as I see him: a good versatile not-so-young-anymore player that is expandable when you have Hendo, Fab, Keita, Thiago, Milner, Ox.

Gini knows all that and he will go away, else he would have accepted the recent offer. This is just a healthy situation where club and player don't come together but both know that it isn't because of a lack of respect for each other, but because of very specific interests. His recent goal doesn't change these facts, it also does not take away anything from Gini...it's just how football business works...and I just point that out.
