This is the only sense I see in the Thiago transfer rumors -- If Gini is intent on leaving and won't sign a new contract, sell him for 20-25M and replace him with Thiago for whatever the balance of the fee is.  I would hate to lose Gini as he's been one of my favorites for a few seasons now, but all players must move on at some point....

Yes, my statement came across as harsh, I didn't mean to shove him out the door, I just meant to get his sale sorted out quickly so that we could use the money on other targets, whenever any of the current team or squad leave they will have earned unending gratitude and thanks from the fans.

It's a valid enough view, but imo we still need that experience he will bring while the young lads come into their prime.

That is after all, why we still have Milner.

Kind of my take on it too.

To be honest, I’m not overly bothered if he was to leave. He’s been a very good player for us but at the same time, I wouldn’t put him in the bracket of Alisson, Trent, Virgil, Robbo, Hendo and the front 3 of being massively hard to replace, he dips in and out of form too often for that to be the case.

Like Ox, on his day he can be right up there and nobody can get near him, but then he will also have a fairly long run of games where he’s well off form and should just be on the bench. Neither of them are irreplaceable or concerns me if they were to leave.

Don’t get me wrong though because like I said, on his day he is boss so would be happy if he ended up staying. Just lacks that consistency in his game that doesn’t make it overly difficult to replace him IMO.

I hope I am wrong but I just think he is leaving.  Players that are going to sign a new contract would have by now.  He has been a class act for us unsung hero.   Personally I would give him a few weeks and then sell him.  We are talking a world class player even in the final months of his contract their is value.  And if Koeman wants him then he will pay.  Because at the end of the day he might not be in the job next summer to get him on a free.

Come on Gini sign on the dotted or else we are going to lose a monster of a player for very little too.   Because if he is on a contract no one is getting him less than 60m.
