We've apparently tried to give him a new deal and he's said no. Make of that whatever you will. Personally don't know why he'd want to go to Barca unless it's for money and weather. It can't be for footballing reasons.

Nothing wrong earning good money whilst enjoying the sunny weather..plus Gini has won the lot with us..

It would appear he hasn't turned down the contract, according to a few sources (Sky, Athletic). Negotiations broke down primarily over wages, with Gini believing his wage should be closer to the top earners at the club. We seem to have misgivings about offering a 3-4 year deal on that high a wage. This is still up in the air it would seem, and made more complicated by the fact that the driving force behind Barca's interest, Koeman, is far from secure in his job ahead of the presidential elections later this month.

Not sure how this will end up to be honest.

I'm actually quite chilled about this, probably my age.

I want the lad to stay but if he decides he wants to go to Barca then fair enough and good luck to him.

Try your hardest for the last few months though or you can f**k off you rat. 😁
Haha, he has done his part for us tho, if he wants to leave fine, Thiago is there ;D

Gini has been a fantastic player for us, but he is incredibly frustrating to watch sometimes, so so negative, similar to Henderson, yes I know they are told to play like that, but a bit more positivity and proactive play sometimes would be very welcome.

Having said that he does deserve to be earning the same as the other top players.

he sure does, but would you put in him the same ranks as Salah or Van Dijk?

No but I'd put him on the same wages as Keita.

To be fair to the lad, he's more than within his rights to be asking for top end wages going off how often he's picked and available

As far as I understand it Gini is on £70k per week Keita is on £120k, if true then no wonder Gini is a bit pissed off.

Given his low wages compared to most every other LFC mid....
Given his consistent health compared to most every other LFC mid....
Given his offensive prowess on his National team compared to his more restrictive role on LFC....
Given transfer fees are no longer in his financial equation.....
      Given Barcelona's public interest....

      Gini has much leverage

At some point Klopp & Co will bend for LFC cannot count on the perpetually broken Keita, Ox, & Thiago or the perpetually nicked up/aging Henderson & Milner

Free transfers are gold right now at a time when teams earn no gate receipts.
Financially, Gini is in Barca's wheel house and he & his agent clearly have a solid idea of the size of Barca's potential offer.
      ----------
LFC has to work within a budget so I expect Gini will move on while LFC moves forward with a younger cheaper contract.

Yup, it's an absolute joke considering what Gini has done for this club in comparison.

Would rather we sold Keita and held on to Gini for another 4 seasons.

I agree with your point but I feel the only thing that could work in Keita's favour is his age despite how injury-prone he is

The way I see this is that if it wasn't a pandamic he was a definite bosman and not now long time ago.   He is on low wages because he hasn't extended his contract.  The thing is smart players with good representations sign contracts and sort them out.   He has been under payed vastly in my opinion but he had to negotiate another deal which would have been around for a long long time.  It is how it works here.   I would have thought there would have been an offer on the table in his second season.

I'm sure the club are offering him a nice amount per week to resign.

I think its more down to wanting something different, sun on the back and a nice family lifestyle out in Spain.

He will be committed till the end. And I've total respect for whatever he wants to do next

You also forgot in your assessment of how much of a shitbag Gini can be when the game turns into a battle.

If we can replace with better then it's "see you Gini la!"

Bollocks he’s a big game player don’t recall him shitting the bed in big games. He’s single handedly won us games -City, Barca, atletico goal and assist last year, scored in the derby. Don’t recall him bottling it, he will be a huge loss to this team plus the mans never injured.
