Mo Farah - greatness defined. I think I know my choice for Sports Personality of the Year. Without doubt Britain's greatest track and field athlete!

Edit: USA followed by Jamaica dominate the women's 4X400m relay but the bronze taken by Britain takes Team GB past it's London record of 65 medals to 66 medals. Incredible! Shout out to Christine Ohorougou who wins a medal in her third successive Olympics! Gold in Beijing, silver in London and bronze in Rio!

Man, this felt so good. Better than I expected. First ever gold in Olympic football.

      Neymar is class.

Only Big Joe left and I think he will have his work cut out but when he lands a punch it counts, Enjoyed these games probably more so than London because its all been about performance and not hype. Still think Track and Field need a wake up call apart from the wonderful Sir Mo.
Think we have secured second place which is barking mad.

He has been special throughout mate; top quality - let loose he looks fantastic. Forget the fans who pretend they wouldn't find it "honest" or "honourable" to buy the best players, for a moment... can you imagine him in LFC Red?  :o

I hope when the euphoria from these games settles down the coaching and management of all these sports is also recognised because its clear we have the very best coaching staff in the world. If Joe Joyce wins his Gold today I will be ecstatic and it would be a fitting end to a fantastic two weeks. Football is going to be difficult to enjoy after this

Congrats to the GB athletes for smashing the 48 medal target. Our strength across a range of different sports/events is great to see.  Still can't believe we're about to beat China to 2nd place in the medal table.

Nafi Thiam & Katarina Johnson-Thompson both jumped 1.98 in the heptathlon high jump, the winner of the actual high jump competition jumped 1.97 :D.

I wonder if KJT will turn her attention to the high jump because I can't see her winning a gold in heptathlon unless she seriously increases her shot put and javelin credentials.

She'll get there mate.  Both those events are highly technical rather than speed/strength related and she doesn't even need to improve massively in them to get those gold medals.  Get her some specialist coaching for those events and she'll be unstoppable, she just needs to want it and work at it.

Apparently the usual winners of the high jump get around 2.02-2.05m so the level of competition must have been pretty low compared to other years. She has a few strong events (long jump, high jump, 800m, 200m) but she's terrible at others, there's no in-between which means all her hard work gets undone. I'm not sure whether it'd be easier for her to focus on her run ups & throwing action so that she can start competing for the medals in heptathlon or to go full on with something like high jump. Schippers showed that it can be done though & Jess Ennis-Hill at one point made a move towards 100m hurdles but it takes something special to become a strong contender in an individual event.

The thing I'd like to see more of from Katarina is her fight in the javelin and shot put. It honestly looked like she just gave up in those events.

I think she can do it with the right coaching and just with her body hitting peak condition in time for Tokyo.

If she did switch though (or enter both) I think she has a good shot of a medal at the high jump.

Don't think it would be gold though mate whereas she'd have a great chance of gold in the heptathlon if she improves slightly on those two events.

The different between Katarina's PB's and her scores in Rio...

      PB
      100m Hurdles: 13.37 seconds = 1069 points (May 2016)
      High Jump: 1.98 metres = 1211 points (Aug 2016)
      Shot Put: 13.14 metres = 737 points (May 2016)
      200m: 22.79 seconds = 1100 points (May 2016)
      Long Jump: 6.92 metres = 1146 points (July 2014)
      Javelin: 42.01 metres = 706 points (Aug 2015)
      800m: 2:07:64 = 999 points (Aug 2013)

      RIO
      100m Hurdles: 13.48 seconds = 1053 points
      High Jump: 1.98 metres** = 1211 points
      Shot Put: 11.68 metres = 640 points
      200m: 23.25 metres = 1054 points
      Long Jump: 6.51 metres = 1011 points
      Javelin: 36.36 metres = 598 points
      800m: 2:10:47 = 958 points

      DIFFERENCE
      100m Hurdles: 0.11 seconds = 16 points
      High Jump: -
      Shot Put: 1.46 metres = 97 points
      200m: 0.46 metres = 46 points
      Long Jump: 0.41 metres = 135 points
      Javelin: 5.65 metres = 108 points
      800m: 2.83 seconds = 41 points

Katarina PB points compared to Thiam: +28 in hurdles; 0 in high jump; -140 in shot put; +193 in 200m; +112 in long jump; -215 in javelin; +228 in 800m. The difference is Katarina's PB's are spread over a number of events from the past 3 years whereas Thiam did near enough all of hers in one event. As a result, Thiam's overall PB is higher than Katarina's - 6810 (in 2016) to 6682 (in 2014).
