We have made a £30 million bid for the Gremio striker Luan.

Liverpool have made an offer of €35 million (£30 million) for Gremio forward Luan according to radio station Futebol da Gaucha.

Luan has just returned to Gremio from the Rio Olympics, where he was with Brazil’s under-23 side. He played a part in all six games, starting four of them, and returned with a gold medal after his side won on penalties against Germany in the final.

Luan was the eventual joint-second-top scorer for the home nation, alongside new Manchester City signing Gabriel Jesus and behind only Neymar.

Now Luan might get his chance to prove himself on the European stage, following good form in the Brazilian Serie A so far this year, where he’s scored six goals in just 15 games.

Last season, he got 10 in 33, so is on course to smash his record this time around should he stay in Porto Alegre until the end of the year.

However, Liverpool have reportedly made a move for Luan in the closing days of the transfer window. Their initial bid is reportedly around £30million, but they’re in a position to go higher after receiving almost £70million in transfer fees this summer, having spent nearly £10million less than that on additions themselves.

Earlier in the summer, the 23-year-old’s agent Jair Peixoto confirmed to the press that he and his client had spoken to Premier League champions Leicester City about a move for the forward, but The Foxes seemingly didn’t meet either the player’s or the club’s demands, and he could now end up at Anfield instead.

That's interesting Skip,I still think we need to spend big money on a good defender though. Then again as long as we score more goals than we let in that would give us the 3 points.

Another brazilian central player. Seems to be a decent player although I'm only basing that off of the Olympics. 6 games 3 goals 3 assists.

I would still prefer a specialist, another Mane for the other side. For me he's already the most exciting player at the club, to have someone complement him on the other side would be the biggest step up we can make.

Interesting move if true. Double down on Brazilian attackers when we really need a LB.

Meh, the £30M fee makes me think it's definitely bullshit. No way Gremio would be in a position to demand that much. Luan is a promising player who looked quite good in the Olympics, but he surely wouldn't cost that much

Gabriel Barbosa (Gabigol), for instance, has been a higher profile player for a longer time and just left Santos for Inter Milan 29.5M euros. I know other factors can influence a transfer fee but if I thought it was a lot of money for Gabriel, then 35M euros for Luan sounds exaggerated

After all Klopps talk about not needing a big squad this season, getting rid (or looking to get rid) of Benteke, Balotelli, Markovic, and Ibe, Ings playing in the under 23's, Ojo still to come back. How late in the window this has popped up, when we were looking to get business done early. Plus the fee. And the fact our immediate weaknesses are in other areas...

I find it very hard to believe.

Won't need a defence if we keep buying players like this and start knocking 5 or 6 in every match....
This kid is nowhere near the level of Danny - he might be eventually but then again, he might not. To be honest Al, I'm at a loss to see where you're getting your 'sign him and start scoring 5 or 6 a match' logic... the kid is far from prolific.

If we sign him it will be because of the hope that he could ripen into a "nice little earner", (as Del Boy would have said), not because of his prowess in front of goal.

Sell Danny to replace him with this kid? Nah.

Maybe Jürgen can train him up to play the 'left-inside-right-wing-attack-back'... Lord knows we need us one of them.  :lmao:
