      Rio 2016 Summer Paralympics
      Sep 08, 2016 03:43:46 pm

I confess I'm a bit disappointed that no thread has been created for this yet!

The Opening Ceremony was last night at the MaracanĂ£ - I was there and it was a great and very heartwarming experience.

Now looking forward to being inspired and surprised by the great Paralympians from the world.

Also, on Tuesday I had the chance of visiting the British House for the Paralympic Games. I was there as a guest for the pre-departure event of the Chevening scholarship which I have received, and had the chance of meeting the British embassador to Brazil, Mr Alex Ellis, as well as the CEO of Paralympics GB, Mr Tim Hollingsworth.

We were waiting for you to do it.

Caught a bit of the opening ceremony last night.  It isn't covered as well in the UK as the Olympics was but it's still on a terrestrial broadcaster.

If I'm not mistaken is it just one stream being offered by Channel 4 or are they taking over other channels they own like More4 and E4 and providing extra content there? Still only a minimal slice compared to the red button and BBC 4 services provided by the BBC as well as the online streams of all sports via the BBC Sport website.

Still - looking out for the likes of Sarah Storey later on to see if she can increase her gold medal haul.

Surpassing Tanni Grey Thompson. 12 Paralympic gold medals - what an effort by Sarah Storey! 4 golds by Great Britain today.

Diego - you back in the velodrome anytime soon?!

I wish! I had tickets for yesterday but had to pass them on to a friend as I'll be doing a short duration course from 8 to 11 of September.
I also have tickets for the Velodrome on Sunday but I'll have to give it to someone from the family - the course happens precisely during the competitions at the Velodrome, which are also from 8 to 11 of September, sadly!

I'll go watch some athletics, swimming and goalball after that.

Good luck to this lad representing Spain! Forever defying the odds despite being born with the IQ of a cornflake.

I forgot that this was on until last night, I'm usually on top of these events. Between watching the US Open, the fact that it's on a channel I never watch, binge watching TV series' and doing NFL fantasy drafts I completely forgot.

It's great to see that we're off to an amazing start already, definitely tuning in today.

Ukraine are doing brilliantly so far - 8 golds and third place at the moment.

Kadeena Cox... what a wonderful lady. World record and gold in 400m. Get in.

I love the purity and innocence of the Paras and have enjoyed it (like I did in 2012) more than the Olympics.

Just watched my first ever match of wheelchair tennis and how good it was! Two Great Britain athletes will meet in the final. Well done Alfie Hewett, only 18 and already guaranteed a Paralympic medal.

I genuinely think he's one of the greatest sportsman living today. His life and sporting career before and after his crash has been nothing short of extraordinary!

Without doubt one of the mentally toughest sportsmen ever to grace the earth.

Benoit Huot says goodbye to the Paralympic Games with his 20th medal - a bronze.

A true legend of paralympic sport. He was extremely gracious in his interview afterwards, praising Andre Brasil for pushing him onto becoming a better athlete.
