The January Transfer Window - Stick or Twist?
      Nov 05, 2016 08:37:27 am
I think a lot of us can be guilty of thinking that when it's going good it is actually better than it actually is.

Seen and heard a few people saying that, as it stands, we have the squad that can win this league.

Fresh blood can unsettle what at the moment is a good squad - if it ain't broke then don't try to fix it. I understand that train of thought a little.

Sadio Mane, who is very important to our interchanging offence and high pressing defence, is off to the African Cup of Nations in January.

Danny Ings who a lot of people think is suited to a Klopp side and also thought would come in before Sturridge once fully fit, if required, is out for the season.

I also worry about an injury to Hendo as his replacement is Can who I think is still a very rough diamond and inconsistent. Or Lucas who, although I think is a great replacement for the odd game here and there, is not a player I think could come in and be enough over the course of ten or so games in a side with title winning aspirations.

I didn't get Wijnaldum at first but him missing a couple of games were probably the best games he'd played for us in my eyes as it was then clearer for me to see how important he is.

If Coutinho gets injured is his replacement going to give us what we need when taking into account Mane being unavailable? By that I mean if you take those two out what happens to the quality up there and how much will it change?

If you go through our typical first choice eleven, especially the midfield and front threes and take into account the Mane absence, Ings injury and Sturridge 'situation' whilst looking at the quality of replacement to any future injuries then, like me, you may be hoping for a solid couple of signings come January.

The point is to discuss how important or unimportant signings in January could be to our title/top four hopes and why or why not signings in January are important or unimportant

Twist, we should always be looking to improve as other clubs will be.

The bonus is, were not in Europe, so no worries about being cup tied.

I'd take anything whether that be one or five as long as it improved us.

      Twist.

As Daz says we should always be looking to improve of the right player is available.

I think we'll see one player come in that Klopp has worked with before.

I'd imagine Klopp will sign another midfielder, perhaps Dahoud, and a new long term left back. Whether that happens in January or next summer depends on whether the players he wants are available I assume.

I'd be happy if we didn't sign anyone for the first team in January, but I expect to see a first team midfielder and left back in the summer if we don't do any significant Jan business.

Depends on who is available and what Klopp thinks he needs. Not adverse to deals being done with next season in mind either.

Would like to see us sign some cover for Mane/Ings, but not a 'squad player', I've always been of the belief you sign players for the first team and let them fight it out.

Generally speaking though, I think we are quite well set with our current squad.

Always depends on who is available, don't think Klopp is the guy who goes out and just buys stocking fillers,  as was made plainly obvious in the last window , it will only be someone on the cheap who can improve on what we have .

I voted for bringing in two, with Mane and I think Matip also off to the African thingy we're missing two vital cogs in the wheel, i expect big Mama and Klavan could suffice at the back but who do you replace Mane with,?
I reckon Klopp will have this in hand and will stick or twist accordingly,
I do agree tho that anyone who comes in has to match the quality we have already.

I believe Matip no longer plays for Cameroon as he fell out with the Manager.

I voted other on the basis that if Klopp is happy (either way) then who am I to argue.

I'd like to see another attacking player added but yeah - they've got to be a first teamer.  It's hard to picture right now that this season isn't going to be one of progress with or without January transfers.

A fast player like Mane to break the line. We will miss him. Our front players are brilliant but he is the only one with real electric pace that can play out wide!

Quality CB or left back and a striker/winger.

Don't be surprised if we get the left back we've been craving to release the 'King of the Assists' - Milner for the home run.....

Not sure we 'need' to sign someone in January but lot can happen between now and then. Squad wise, we're in as good a shape as we've been for a long time. Bad luck for Ings getting another injury, but he's hardly featured. Mane and Matip going off to the Cup will have impact, but Studge and Origi are hardly playing, Milner could move up to wing etc, we have options,  and Klavan in defense.  If we sign someone to replace guys going to African Cup, what happens the new boy when those lads return.
Saying that, if Jürgen has someone in mind, has the money, can strengthen, then why not.  He's done great with the signings so far. He has said he wants a lean squad, so don't see him signing guys if he doesnt really need to.

Like any year, it depends who is available who is potentially better than we already have and at what price they're being sold for. Klopp strikes me as a pragmatic man so I would assume this is his thinking as well.
