ITV 10.40 TONIGHT.
Nearly three decades after the Hillsborough disaster, Peter Marshall examines new evidence behind some of the shocking headlines about the Liverpool fans.
The referee on that day speaks about his evidence actually being changed to support allegations that fans were drunk.
Ray Lewis appears on an ITV documentary tonight and recalls that a typed version of his statement referred to fans as being ''pissed'' when he had originally written ''mixed''; he said he feels it was altered
''to give support to police actions''.
All the evidence South Yorkshire police presented about the disaster has to be treated with high suspicion. But the cover up and lies was more or less accepted by the powers that be. Thatcher obviously did nothing, Blair did sod all, ditto Brown. Treresa May did act when she was home secretary.
But as I say for years nothing was done despite the courageous and brave fight by the families and others. This is why so many outside of Liverpool still repeat the lies put out by the police and others. They are obviously not well informed as most people only look at the headlines and don't delve deeper that that.
That's a small part of the tragedy in that the lies stick.
