Players who never fulfilled their potential / hype
      Dec 30, 2016 09:39:37 pm
Watching the bitters playing hull at the moment and am struck once again by how Ross Barkley is a player who, in my opinion, will never reach his true potential.
Jack Rodwell is another blue who falls into this category (there is another former blue that for the life I me I can't remember)
There are many you could add to the list from the premier league era; joe Cole, dean Ashton, Kieran dyer, Owen Hargreaves and so on.
My brain is mush after the Xmas festivities so I would love to know of which players also fall into the same bracket

Francis Jeffers? Danny Cadamerteri ( although Cadamerteri fu**ed himself up when he was charged with assault of a young woman in the 2000's)  so the sh*te sold him on and he just faded into obscurity a bit like evertonians and there sh*te club.
One more off the top my head 'Neil mellor.
P.S I agree with you regarding Barkley
The lad will never reach his full potential while he's got a hole in his arse, and carries far to much cargo for a so called professional footballer looking at him,he always looks fu**ed

      Great selections.
Mellor's main issue to me was that he lacked the pace and the strength to be one kind of striker or the other.
Francis Jeffers is a damn good one. He was such a talent.
      A few others that just occurred to me;

      Seth Johnson
      Dan Gosling
      Dalian Atkinson
      mark Walters
      David Bentley.

Was it injury that curtailed his career?

Alun Evans he had the lot and ruined it all by living the high life.I recall once when he had been dropped for a while,he was called back to the first team for a European tie and scored a hat-trick.I still have the programm for that match and will dig it out sometime.

Our very own Ryan Babel. When he looked up and wasn't staring at his feet, he was unplayable. I would have made him play wearing a neck brace.

We've probably got a half decent wasted potential Liverpool XI.

      Mark Kennedy.
As sweet a left foot as you'll ever see.
Sadly, the rest of him never got to the same level.

      Emiliano Insua.

Poor lad had a bad couple of games and that was the end of him. Lost all confidence and couldn't put in a decent performance and was out the door soon after.

Same for me just shows the fine line between really making it and just being in the pack .

Balotelli, scoring nearly a goal a game (minutes played) in France!  :f_whistle:

      Exactly.

So if the players weren't wrong ..... who was ?

If Benteke is now playing and taking up  positions to make a difference why wasn't he before ?

Because believe it or not we didn't really play to his strengths, from corners or decent crosses into him similar to what provided Palace's first goal yesterday. Only one I can think of was the one at Old Trafford for that unbelievable scissor-kick.

That two hour interview of TPM obviously worked wonders.

Emiliano Insua. Looked a good prospect when he first came in and played a few games here and there for Liverpool in the 08-09 season. Never really fulfilled that promise and proved in the following season just how difficult it was for him. Nonetheless he's carved out a decent if unspectacular career on the continent. That said, despite his struggles he would still have been a better option than Paul F***ing Konchesky.
