Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said events at the U.S. Capitol Wednesday are evidence Western democracy is fragile and vulnerable to populism.
He said, “A populist has arrived, and he has led his country to disaster over these past four years."

Rohani added he hoped “the next occupants of the White House” will “restore the country to a position worthy of the American nation, because the American nation is a great nation."

Wise words, and words of hope, to the USA, from Iran :)

An Iran President giving lectures in democracy is a bit like me telling sheikhs how to sell sand.

If this was Iran or Belarussia or Venezuela or any other politically unstable country, and the people literally took their protests to the door of the national parliament, the USA and the West in general would cheer them on, and encourage more. When it happens in Washington though, it's described as "terrorism". Frankly a few flag throwers, roof climbers, and windows smashed is not terrorism, and anyone who disagrees clearly hasn't been to hotspots in the Middle East, Europe or Asia, to see what real terrorism looks like.

This Presidency has been dominated by protests and violence from before it took office. Womens marches, BLM, climate change, the travel ban, the G8, the G20, the second amendment, statue renovations, Supreme Court nominees, impeachment hearings, party conventions, election day itself, you name it; there was a protest about it. Sometimes mass riots, destruction, and casualties resulted. None of them qualified as "terrorism", neither was this. As many political protests do, it started out peaceful before it boiled over. A couple of hours later and it was finished, then the Electoral College fulfilled it's obligations. He has a week left in the job, now is a time for cool heads and routine politics until the handover is complete, not risk making the volatile situation worse.

The Republicans now have to take stock, and  get ready to win the houses back in the next mid terms. It has been reported that Melania is ready to divorce Trump on January 21. That's what they said about Hillary and Bill 20 years ago. For reasons best known to herself, she is still married to him all these years later.

I’ve notice that the National Guard’s are not carrying any loaded weapons, no magazines rounds or on their person.. such is the threat...

I think the FBI & secret service will be the only ones carrying loaded weapons around Biden..

I was thinking how absolutely mad it is that an outgoing president is even allowed to pardon people but then I remembered that in the UK outgoing PM's are allowed to give people titles and to sit in the House of Lords.

Massively corrupt and shouldn't be allowed either here or there.

      Was thinking the same.

How on earth it is allowed is beyond me.

Such a lovely sight seeing that helicopter fly away from the White House, taking away the garbage!

Apparently he's planning on starting a third party - The Patriot Party. Potential that that's just going to gut the Republican vote. But hey, they spawned it so nice to see them steering their own wreckage into themselves. For all the talk about the divide of the left in recent years, the right will make that look like a minor squabble.

25,000 soldiers guarding the inauguration of the incoming president whilst the death count from coronavirus continues towards half a million Americans.

Hope the next four years end in better shape for the USA.

Would we have forgiven Trump for everything if this really was one of his pardons??
