That deal would take forever to complete too.

Sporting refused to negotiate a new contract with Carvalho, though, for as long as he was represented by Mendes. It was only when he left Mendes, in February of this year, that he could sign a new contract at Sporting with a long overdue pay increase to €1m salary. That contract, though, came with a €45m (£40m) release clause that is threatening to price him out of a move to the Premier League.

There is little prospect of Carvalho moving this January, with Sporting holding presidential elections in March next year and De Carvalho up for another term. But next summer there is likely to be another push for Carvalho to come to England, and if a big team offered close to €40m (£35m) it is difficult to see Sporting saying no.

A friend of mine who lives in Portugal said Carvalho actually hasn't been that great lately, but he thinks it might be due to motivation - a new challenge might push him a bit more. He also says he prefers his midfield partner Adrien.

But anyway, Carvalho is apparently a beast in the air (he wins something like 68% of his aerial duels and is only 1cm taller than Can, who wins about 45%) and supposedly good on the ball. I only remember watching him for Portugal which wasn't very frequent, so don't know that much.

Not that any of this matters, as it seems there's no true whatsoever to it.

I believe Carvalho is a similar type of DM to Lucas/Busquets. Is this something we should be looking into?
