Not a bad keeper this lad, he's done well whenever I've seen him play both for the u23s and u18s.  Still only 18 so still able to play for the u18s this season, then it'll be a fight it out amongst yourselves between him, Grabara and Shamal for the u23s slot.

Liverpool secured the services of talented Republic of Ireland youth international goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher in the summer of 2015.

Caomhin, pronounced Quivine, was born in Cork, and features for the U18s and U23s.

He joined the Academy from Ring Mahon Rangers and featured for Ireland U17s in the U17 European Championships.

Kelleher, he's been on the bench on match days. Think I remember Klopp saying when Alisson got injured how Adrian is the replacement and then Kelleher becomes the back up. Lonergan was signed because at the time Kelleher was still recovering from injury and we had nobody else.

I was surprised to learn Kelleher will start tonight in front of Adrian. As I think of it, is there a chance the coaches feel he is already better than Adrian - that it's a selection based entirely on current merit?

I ask because other first team players who don't get as many games, like Lallana and Divock Origi, will be in the starting lineup. The kids who start typically don't have such a backup first-teamer in front of them, but Kelleher does, and he's starting anyway. I don't expect Jürgen to be rotating Alisson for anything but League Cup games.

Could it be that Caoimhin is just better than Adrian?

He has yeah , looks set to be the backup choice for Alisson if he continues his recent form

He should be given the chance to secure the backup spot so that we can decide if we need to go out and get a keeper next summer. It’s only one game but he impressed and deserves a continued run until Alisson is back.
