Caoimhin Kelleher Player Thread (GK)

He came into the team last week cold, and instantly kept a clean sheet. He had to sit it out this week, and (with the other keeper sprawling around on the floor) the clean sheet went with him.

The win rate stat clearly resonates. Of course he would rather play more matches, (he seems to be one of the few who wants more matches these days) but it's not exactly a fair fight, as it would be in other positions on the field. All he can do is help us win as many games as possible when he does play, which like it or not, he did last season. Unfortunately it's not admired or respected, but there's nothing he can do about that.

Try this as an exercise: Let's say over four games Alisson plays 3 of them and Kelleher plays one of them. Kelleher plays in a match against say, Everton and we win the game 1-0..he has 100% (clean sheet) record. Alisson plays against Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea...LFC wins against the first two 1-0 but lose to Chelsea 1-0.... His win stat is just over 66%. Does this prove Kelleher is a better goalkeeper than Alisson?...even though Alisson has two out of three clean sheets, one more than Kelleher, and has played against stronger opposition...No it doesn't.
You percentage argument falls short unless both players play in the same number of matches against the same opposition....even in the same weather conditions..You're barking up the wrong tree with this angle.

International goalkeeper is he not? Won us trophies ... performed well in big games and pressure sutuations. You shouldnt be keeping goal for this club if youre anything less. See mignolet, karius, westerveld etc. Outside this club there is no keeper id take in this league over kelleher bar ederson maybe. None of them.

I was talking to chris kirkland last week about this very topic and he feels kelleher is an 'exceptional' goalkeeper was how he phrased it. Im inclined to agree with him. He's top drawer. I will be sad to see him go but wish him the best as well. Im sure he will be called upon again this season and it will be of no concern if he is in goal.

Kelleher is a good number 2 for us

If he was “world class” then clubs would be queuing up to throw money at us to get him

No 'World Class' goalkeeper is still a number 2.

Not saying he couldn't go on to be described as World Class, have my doubts personally, but to describe him as that right now is plain silly.

Although not the saddest thing you read on here at times saying that
